I just wanted to see what people's opinion's were of todays racing?
I unfortunatley was there and had to endure the worst days racing I have ever been to! The only positives were the GT Cup, and the Vintage Touring Car Race. Always good to see the old Mustangs racing against a Mini!!!
Anyway back to the Formula 2, I thought the actual racing was terrible, I may be wrong but I cant remember seeing more than 1 overtake between both the races. The cars are very bland indeed, was at the Superleague series a couple weeks back, and was really taken back by them, the noise from them was very impressive.
For me Formula 2 should be a "mini" F1 series different chasis, different teams and maybe even a couple engine supliers. I was actually not born when the prior Formula 2 series was running, but have managed to watch quite a few races. And for me this new creation of the series just isn't good enough. I dont think the quality of driver is great either, Palmer managed 1 sixth last season and had a 1st and 2nd today, dont need to say anymore there really.
In my opinion there are to many single seater seires about now, World Series By Renault, Superleague, GP2, GP3, Formula BWM, Formula Renault, Formula 3 (All national series), the names beat me but the series using the old A1 chasis also and I think there maybe a few more as well.
I go to many motor racing events but today was by far and away the worst event I have personally ever been to, if it weren't for the Touring car race and GT Cup being the last 2 events on the timetable I would have left before the 2nd F2 race!
One issue I think Silverstone has is the lack of the International Circuit, the BMW's are a great series but there just not the same on the full GP ciruit imo, SIlverstone needs a fourth lay out!
Anyone else share the same views or am I being a little harsh? Role on the FIA GT's

Cannot comment on the racing today, but all series have some duff races and some great ones so give it a chance.
I do agree that there are too many single seater race series about and the name Formula 2 for this series is an insult to all previous Formula 2 champions and race winners.

The drivers love it though and at the PBMW level of motorsport it's more about driver rather than spectator satisfaction I'm afraid. One issue I think Silverstone has is the lack of the International Circuit, the BMW's are a great series but there just not the same on the full GP ciruit imo, SIlverstone needs a fourth lay out!

I was at Silverstone, just for yesterday, supporting my sons. One of whom is a GT Cup sponsor and the other was driving in the Heritage Race, and I'm pleased to say that he shared the drive in the class C winning car.I just wanted to see what people's opinion's were of todays racing?

I'm fortunate to be old enough to have watched the original F2 racing, in the days when F1 drivers were not the spoilt pampered drivers of today.
For I have photos of Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Sir Jack Brabham, amongst others, racing in F2 and in the Touring car championships of the day. In those days they drove to earn their money and to enjoy racing. They also lived life to the full as well!
Sometimes progress is not for the better.
I went down on Saturday as I enjoy the spectacle of the F2 cars, but wanted to see the Elise Trophy races. The F2 cars were fairly dramatic through Becketts, but lacked the aural and visual drama of Superleague a couple of weekends previously. I fear the championship is in danger of becoming a backwater - much like FPA. For all the positive rhetoric regarding cost saving, FR3.5, F3 and GP3 again seem to be the most popular choices for the career driver. I worry that F2 will feature a few skint youngsters and plenty of rich amateurs who fancy a crack at single-seater racing for vanity's sake.
However, the Elise Trophy races were both awesome, as was the Production Saloons. PBMW looks quite undramatic over the expanses of Silverstone, but what doesn't? Gutted to miss Heritage GT as last time I witnessed one of their races was supporting F2 at Donington last year and the grid was terrible. I hope it enjoys a better season.

I find anything slower than GT3 seems a little hard work at Silverstone. It's a cracking circuit, but as a spectator I find it comes alive with big, powerful cars. Group C, LMP, F1, etc. all look amazing round there. However, I'd rather watch FFord around Donington and FJunior around Cadwell.
I thought the F2 cars seemed quicker than last year and they have both grip and grunt in abundence. However, the Superleague machines are as dramatic as anything outside of F1 these days. They look right and they're so powerful. That engine noise is simply divine. For the fan of BRM, Matra and Ferrari 12-cylinder engines of days gone by, the noise alone was worth the 250 mile round trip from Leeds. I do fear for the future of F2 looking at the strength of the other championships around it, but let's give it time. Still fun to watch quick cars whatever the political situation.

Sadly there are a million promising young drivers out there without the funds to succeed. I think with a lack of cylinders and a slightly boxy shape, it's easy to underestimate quite how quick the F2 cars are. I enjoy watching them, they just need greater strength in depth in terms of the driver line-up.
I was there on the Sunday and my abiding impression was how far away from the action the spectator has been moved, I used to love watching fast, loud and dangerous motor racing but this all seems a parody of what went before.
I was lucky enough to race in the Heritage event and whilst that was good I find Silverstone just so bland, mistakes don't even end up in the kitty litter, give me Oulton Park (even post chicanes) Spa and the Ring any day.

I agree that they are making the circuit worse at the moment. Soon Becketts will be the only place worth watching from. I was at Cadwell the weekend before and Oulton the weekend before that. Nothing can compare to a glorious parkland circuit on a sunny day. I have to agree! Why have F2 when there is GP2 and GP3? I would rename it GP4! It would get rid of the confusion!I just wanted to see what people's opinion's were of todays racing?
