Has anyone used this company for engine work, balancing, rebuild etc?
If so, were you happy with the results?

Not recently, but if they are the same 'Mass' they used to do a fair few Peugeot 205 race engines when I used to race mine, they where always competitive and reliable engines

There was a time that they totally dominated short circuit racing, if you didn't have an engine that had been "touched" by Alan at MASS, they you wouldn't stand much of a chance.

I know people that have used them for road course cars to great effect.

These days they are part of Chris Conoly's empire, and provide engines to many different genres of motorsport.

You hear good and bad tales about just about every engine builder. I've heard/know of more people having successful experiences with Mass than I do for bad, and where things did turn bad, they did everything in their power to sort it out.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm only requiring their services for a quick crank balance with new clutch.

They do a lot of the historic Morgan engines (TR lumps), they have mine at the moment, always been happy with them, with no problems unlike some I've used over the years, they have a rolling road there too.

i must admit i wasnt too impressed with their RR facility, my car was trying to leap off the rollers. Soon went back to my usual guy (he was fully booked at the time hence i had to use mass)

If you're only after stuff like crank/flywheel balancing then I can suggest Anglian Engine Services in Eaton Socon (St Neots) - 01480 215685 - As for Ian Claridge, he's one of the partners and is a historic racer himself and responsible for some winning engines over the years.

As for rollers - for smaller engines (less than about 250bhp) I'd use Pete Baldwin at Wimpole. You can't beat a bit of Stanley-Tune!

Pete Baldwin is my usual tuning guy, been using him for many years. Will look into the other company, i live in Cambourne so not an issue getting there.

Back in the days of Wendy Wools Special Saloons/Thundersaloons I pit crewed for a few races, a Mass tuned Escort Mk2 Pinto. That car was an awesome piece of kit - lot of power, strong, reliable engine and great balance. The driver was pretty handy too - I saw his name on the entry for the Porsche Cup last year but don't think he ever made it to the grid - hope you're well Mr Quartermaine smile
