I have a race suit I bought in (I think 2007) I did half a season with it then had to stop racing for a bit. Now I'm getting back into it I was wondering if I could use the same suit or if they "run out" like harnesses do?

Check the back of the neck for its certification and see if the standard is still valid.

They arent dated as I understand it, just they comply to a standard and these are periodically updated, like with helmets.

As of this year the FIA1986 standard is no longer legal for MSA events.

I've had a look. It says standard 8856-2000
Then below it: RS.088.05
Year of manufacture 2007

I take it this is OK?

Aah.....so does that mean my 1986 suit could still be eligiable for sprinting... I'd rather not have to bin a perfect condition Stand 21 3 layer Pro suit for 3 or 4 club level events per year confused

Yeah the 2000 is the current spec... they've recently started putting year of manuf in there, so the can presumably lobby to have them aged at some point..

DOes anyone know if you can def use a 1986 spec suit for sprinting, as I want to get m dad out, he'll fit my old suit as its big for me, but the new one is made to measure so too small for him.

Just looked at the online MSA Blue Book for 2010, and (K)9.1.3. indicates that FIA 1986 should be OK for sprinting.

Proban out in 2012 - so there's still a market for my old two layer proban then? I'll have to stop using it as a welding suit and put it the washing machine followed by a quick pic and on eBay then!!! (or not).
