Hi all,

I'm hoping to compete in a sprint championship this year and am in the process of sorting out clothing, comparing prices at the moment.

Other than Demon Tweeks and GPR does anyone have any suggestions where I can purchase racewear on a reasonable budget.

Cheers

I have always found www.ybracing.co.uk to be a lot cheaper than both the above.
Very quick delivery too. Ideal if you know what you want, as it's mail order only.
Well worth a look.

It depends where you are in the country, but I went to a place in South London called Msar-safety, their website is http://www.msar-safety.com/ . I would go somewhere and try stuff on, I walked away with racing shoes 3 times smaller than the pair of shoes I went there in. I wouldn't worry too much about costs as its motorsport after all! Say James Macintyre pointed you in his direction.

The owner, Malcolm, was excellent, he is a racer himself so knows what he is talking about, made me try on virtually everything and made sure I was comfortable and offered me honest advice. I would highly recommend them. He fitted out The Mansells the day before I went there. He even gave me a lift back home as my car broke down, can't ask more than that!

Graham,

The Sprint regs state for 2010 that protective clothing must be MSA approved, helmets (K10) overalls (K9) and gloves K14.3(e).

Gloves must be fire retardant for 2010 and its recommended that fire retardant under wear is worn.

Hope that helps.

AWS are great.

I can get a decent discount with Lico if you're interested - PM me.

Yet another nod for Nick at AWS - fantastic value for money!

I recently got my custom design, made-to-measure 3-layer FIA suit and it was cheaper than most of the standard, single-colour "big brand" suits on Demon Tweek & GPR.

Yates & Bloomfield are alright but they dont hold that much is stock; so your kit usually comes on a slow boat from Italy. You have to establish where the kit is and sometimes they have told people its in stock - only to have them wait weeks for delivery. A bag of Mini Eggs falls someway short of making amends; in my book.

try Lico. They are made by Sparco but its a sneaky way of having two 'sole' importers in one country (Demon Tweeks are offical Sparco importers. The Lico importer (north wales ish iirc) is a small outfit so overheads and thus margins are lower so prices were sensible. All FIA safety tags say sparco rather than Lico to prove who makes them too.
