Hello chaps,

I wonder whether you might be answera question for me?! I'm currently building a Mk2 Escort to compete in either circuit sprinting or hill climbing later this year and I've got a bit of perdicament. Seats and harneesses, do these need to be within FIA? I'm trying to find a definitive answer, as the car already features bucket seats and harnesses, but I'm trying to acertain whether we'll need to purchase some new items.

Thanks in advance and I hope to catch up with some of chaps at either an event soon, or maybe even a Breakfast Club!

You will only need FIA specification seats and harnesses if you plan on doing international events.

That's brilliant news - you've just saved us an awful lot of money. I think we're still going to purchase a more supportive seat (albeit out of FIA), so I best get onto eBay.

Thank you again.

Glad I could help.

One point to consider is if you buy anything that is FIA approved it will have an expiry date on it and this will apply even at club level.

Only for racing, not sprint/hillclimb.

So what we've established is if we're planning on doing either an All Circuit Sprint Championship or the Hill Climb/Sprint Championship we can use seats and harnesses that have run out of FIA accreditation?

I would be inclined to confirm that with an MSA scrut. I can recall one of the scruts at a sprint pointing out to me that my harness in my previous car expired the following year and would need replacing.

Yes. I not only competed in 2009's TWMC's All Circuit Sprint Championship (and came 2nd smile ) but also got a Competition Car Log Book for the car with harnesses with '12/2008' printed on them.

Check by all means but unless the blue book has changed this year...
