You could always try the LMA Saloons, as they have various classes and have many non-standard cars within the Championship

If you are based in the South East then the BARC SE Saloons could also be a possibility

As above and also SEMSEC or the new MSV series for novices.

i presume the clio road legal, is it stripped? are the modifications made with track work in mind or will it need new suspension first of all i would work out the cost of converting it into a racing car and at a guess this is not going to leave you much change from £2K (cage, seat, extinguisher etc) then scour the classifieds online for a ready to roll racer with a log book. i have seen a few cars around £2k already this year, ok they arent going to be pretty and they arent going to be at the front of the grid but is that really an issue in your first season??

Hello,

Before jumping straight in at the deep end with your Clio (which sounds an interesting car by the way) I would recommend that you consider starting out in a 'budget' race series/one make championship.

This would give you the opportunity to learn about racing and all that goes with it, like preparing and repairing the car. Due to the nature of the regulations in a one make championship the costs should be well controlled. I started out in Production BMW and would thoroughly recommend it as a good foundation.

Obviously I do not know your background and you may well be loaded, but from experience I can assure you that learning to race with a heavily modified 2.0 turbo racecar will be very expensive, technically difficult and very time consuming.

I would also consider how many other cars like yours are out there and competitive whilst also being reliable. I can't think of too many. Not yet anyway! wink

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies.

Looked at the suggested formulas, Spent a few days dreaming about trying to fit my car into them.

But a one make series is the sensible option. I'll do the ARDS in Feb, then some track driving training. This year do some more track days, go watch a few formulas i'd like to run in and get ready for 2011.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If your not going to race until 2011, save the ARDS tet to 2011.

No, I'd do it now and get it out of the way, and get your licence..

once you've got your national B licence you just renew it every year, no actual requirement to race.

and it does mean you can jump into a race or a test day at any time.

I'd always recommend the week long course at silverstone if you can afford it. get you the ards, instruction and a race or two..

Yes, if you can afford the licence and want to do testing, get it done. If not, use the money for an extra track day!

caterham academy do that, some of the cscc or whoever they are probably do, its not that practical when you have an off. or when your out on track and have nowhere to lock things safely away.

Yep - I drive to and from the circuits in my PBMW racer.
PBMW is a great championship.

It's one of the cheapest championships in the country.
- Grids of 40 + cars
- Close racing
- Great atmosphere
- £100 a race

Can't argue with that.

Cars are old e30 beemers (320i or 318's)
Cheap to buy, cheap to run and rear wheel drive.
Not the fastest racing cars but on the control Toyo 888 tyres they corner much faster you you'd have thought possible. Great fun.

If you are racing on a budget it is the place to start no question about it.
