Hi All,

I am Surrey based and have just applied for my Non Race Nat B to (Hopefully)compete in a series of Speed Events next year.

I am in the process of completing the refurbishment of a Triumph chassis (Spitfire / GT6 etc) based Lotus 7 lookalike. It is running a standard Spitfire Mk4 running gear (1300, standard suspension and brakes etc etc).

I was wondering if any of you guys would have an idea of which class this would fall into Regs wise - I am assuming it would be bundled in with all the rest of the Lotus 7 Reps (caterhams etc etc)?

Second question is, being Epsom based, anyone have a view on which Motor Club would be best in the area for Speed events?

Thanks Very much in advance

Steve

Might be best to ask the same question on Uphillracers.

Is it a production car still with the original engine or has it been modified and how many of them were made. If you have got your Blue Book you will be able to see the requirements for different categories.

I guess this is a kit car, as you say Lotus 7 look alike.

Is it road legal? (MOTd, insured, taxed), If so "road going kits". Depending on your championship there may be a "special classic" class. If its not road legal (do you have a V5?), then you will be in the modified kit class, - slicks & the like.

a few pointers. Probably best waiting until early 2010 for the calendars to be confirmed.

Hi Steve, check out the Tunbridge Wells Motor Club All Circuit Championship (google TWMC), they cover most of the SE circuits and have just released their '10 calendar which looks great.

All...

Many Thanks for all the replies...

I made a note of the All Circuits series, as it seems to take in such a good range (Brands and Goodwood are a nirvana for me!!)...

The car is a stock car underneath, will (hopefully) be MOTd early next year and is tax exempt, so I hope that I will be in with the Road based kit cars. I know we will be massively underpowered compared to the rest, but its just a bit of fun at the mo....

What I would like to do is to get the car through a mock scrutiny before our first event, is this something that I could arrange through most motor club (I.E. i should not base my choice of motor club on whether they can do this or not).

Thanks all very much again - happy Christmas - Ho Ho Ho

The scrutineers may or may not be members of the local club, or may belong to a different club from the one organising the majority of speed events locally.

What a local club running speed events will be able to tell you is who they use as their scrutineer(s) at their events, you can then contact them direct (details in the book and on the MSA website) to ask if you could bring your car round to them for a look over. Alternatively just turn up at the first event of the season and ask then (after about 10.30am), it's my experience that scrutineers, like other officials, are happy to offer help and advice provided they aren't busy on actual event duties at that moment. I say after 10.30am as first thing in the morning they will have the entire entry to scrutineer before first practice, so they will be very busy. After that they have little to do except paperwork and checking over any car that suffers an "incident" on the track.

Absolutely, if you contact the club secretary they'll put you in touch with who you need to speak to with any scrutineering questions. I'm sure they be happy to chat on the phone or even look over the car in person prior to the first event so you don't have any unwanted surprises on the day.

I can only speak for the TWMC but they are extremely helpful and always keen to see new entries.
