Evening All,
Mrs. QED and I are avid hillclimbers and have done drivers days at most of the countries hills as well as competed for the last 8 years. Now with Mrs. QED having spent the last 12 months growing and delivering a baby and not sitting in our racing car she's very much looking forward to next season! Before she jumps back in I know she's keen to re-hone her race craft and I'm looking for some driving tuition, preferably at Silverstone which is 10 minutes from our house.... the one thing I'm not keen on is the "experience day" nonsense... I want to find something that provides.. a well prepared car, experienced driver showing and watching Mrs. QED through the turns where the objective is to learn and build confidence...not scare/bullst!

Can anyone help/recommend some one/company?

Needless to say this is a christmas present idea!!!

Thanks in advance!

Tried to send you an email but it says you don't accept emails!

Have a look at http://www.timcrighton.com/trackdayandmotorsporttu...

If it is something I can help with then please let me know. It sounds like this is the kind of thing you are after. Can also offer a range of cars for trackday use.

If not, or I can't do the date you are after then I would suggest Simon Mason (who is also on here and will no doubt shortly pop up!)

Wouldn't you be better off booking a test day & an instructor & using your own car if that's what she is used to racing?

In principle yes but in practice no, the car we race/hillclimb doesn't have a passenger seat and realistically will only do one lap before over heating the engine and brakes and running out of fuel!

I learned a lot at Silverstone (despite having raced and tested there many times) from Calum Lockie of Gold Track.............

Just in case you're reading this Calum, the web form on your website doesn't work! Does anyone have his e-mail address?

Hi,

Sounds like I could help you out. I have a Ginetta G20 that I hire out on trackdays and provide instruction with it. Drop me an email joe@joeosborne.com

I hillclimbed an MP62 (and a GR-37) for a number of years and IMHO there is nothing that you will learn on a circuit next to an instructor (in a different car to your Pilbeam) that will be of any use on the hills.

By all means, buy your wife a track day, or similar, and there seem to be some good offers on this thread, but it's not going to help her when she is sitting on the start line at Gurston Down, Wiscombe or any other hill, where the track is about 12 feet wide !

I am sure that I don't have to tell you that the "mental approach" for that 30-40 seconds of hill action, as well as the "driving technique", is what gives you the good times.

As you know, most of the hills do a Practice Day early in the season, where you can normally get half a dozen runs in - that would be my advice to get your wife back into it.

Best of luck for 2010 season !

Regards

I'm not sure I agree with that. How you operate the pedals, balance the car, turn the wheel and pretty much everything you do in a hill climb car can be taught on a race track. Sure, getting the end result is a very different set of skills on a hill climb, but the techniques used to control the car firstly safely and secondly as quickly as possible, are the same between track and hill.

I think some instruction would give the OP's wife some confidence, reduce her chance of making a mistake and improve her technique.

I think that Curborough can be hired out, and used to have a wednesday morning test session that could be booked individually for "laps" in your own car or raod car, maybe try that? Nearer to the hillclimb experience. As I am sure that you are aware there is also a hillclimb school at Prescott, or try a test session at Llandow???
