I have been reading on diffrent forums that if you have a pre drilled helmet you can fit your own HANS post. Does anyone know about this?

If I cant fit them myself were do I get it done?

I would recommend having the Hans posts fitted by the helmet manufacturer. Better safe, also you could make a mess of your expensive helmet.

If they are pre drilled then it is very easy. They simply screw in making it very difficult to get wrong. When you buy the posts they will come with instructions.

I am looking at one of the budget Snell SA2005 helmets (V2 Sport etc.) and they do not come pre-drilled. Like the OP, I'd be happy to fit the posts themselves but would rather not slip with a drill and ruin a decent helmet.

Does anyone know of places where I can take the helmet to be drilled and/or fitted with HANS posts? Obviously I expect to pay for the privilege! smile

Have just talked to the MSA and their take on it is that if you have a HANS device it has to be fitted by a FIA registered technician.

Cool. Did the MSA kindly provide a list of said FIA-registered technicians? smile

Sadley no they did not. They told me I should go back to the helmet manufacturer and get them to fit them. Only prob is that Bell want £200 to fit and I have to pay posting as well. I have emailed Stand 21 at Brands Hatch as i think they fit hans clips and they are close to me. Also think that GPR at silverstone fit them if thats any help.

Brands is very close to me too, if you have any luck with Stand 21, please let me know!

I'm heading to Silverstone next weekend for a track day, so I can ask at GPR then.

Just found out that from 1st jan 2010 you DO NOT have to use the helmet manufacturer to fit hans clips as the rules have changed. Anyone that needs them fitted should wait till jan and go to your local stockist who can fit them and put an FIA certified sticker on.
That phone call has just saved me £130.

probably use stand21 at Brands as they are 40 mins from me and they will help setup the hans device for me in the car.

GPR did mine too. Very helpful and cost about sixty quid (but it was a little while ago).
