I need a full face helmet for sprinting / hillclimbing.
Obviously I'll get one as blue book (and regulations from 01.01.10) which seems to be a BS number.
I'm thinking of using a bike helmet. My local (only) race car shop will measure my head and order a helmet but I don't think this guarantees comfort.
I do ride a bike from time to time with an open face helmet (it's that type of bike) but it would be handy to be able to use this one on longer trips.
My reading of the blue book is that the same standards apply for all events (I rally too and might try my hand at racing in the future). Is this right?
Is there any advantage to not using a bike helmet?

most bike helmets are NOT accepted for car racing, sprints, etc. They are made to different BS/SA standards e.g. do not require flame resistant lining material. The scrutineers always check helmets, Wrong helmet = Go home early! Check the MSA Blue Book carefully and make sure your chosen helmet has the right label.

Go to a shop with lots of stock & try them on. Even 2 "identical" helmets can fit differently. I would buy based on what is most comfortable rather than randomly guessing from catalogue pictures.
Remember to try them with a balaclava on as this will effect the fit.

Buy the best you can afford. If you've got a cheap head, wear a cheap helmet.
But also remember the most expensive is not necessarily the best....I personally rate the V2Sport helmets - quite a few Sprinters are using them - they meet the upcoming rule changes too.

I havn't had an accident yet (touch wood)!!
