Visor tear-offs?
Discussion
Does anyone here use visor tear offs in club racing? I wondered if anyone would get annoyed at the littering they would generate at the side of the track.
Yesterday a car in front of me spewed oil all over my car and I drove most of the remainder of the race with severely impaired vision. If I'd had a tear off I'd have been fine.

i used them when karting in two strokes as you the racing was close you would often be behind someone - well i always was - and the visor would be filthy if the kart in front was running rich, then if it started raining it was ten times worse...
cant see them being an issue in club racing to be honest, there are far worse things left behind after race meetings and marshals will generally inspect their bit of track at the end of each session for stuff like that as they will have noticed it flying through the air. i always take any excuse to look busy with a brush!

Hi Guys
I race in sunnier climes than you do, and don't use tear-offs, so can't comment from knowledge. But in the section on wet weather racing, "Going Faster", the author makes the claim that water can get between the tear-off and the visor and impair vision.
No idea how true that is, just chiming in with my 0.05 in the currency of your choice.

I wouldn't race without them. In fact I always run with two. I suggest you get the thicker optical quality ones because the cheap ones can give bad vision. I don't rip them off every race and the thicker ones are cleanable to some extent if they're a bit grimey. I pull them off and stick them down by the left side of the seat. I race with them in the wet as well and I've never had a problem.
ETA the only problem you might get is the tab fluttering. It can be distracting having that on the side of your helmet, and the first time it did it I thought I had an engine problem!
