I am sure lots of you have done this yourselves but I have some badges to put on my race suit for this years racing and not sure how to get it to stick smile

Are you meant to sew them on, iron them, or put them in a magic place in your house and they get put on for you?

Unfortunately the last option broke in my house since I moved out of home 13 years ago!

Sew 'em - but the sewing needs to be discrete and I believe the actual thread should be fire resistant - I have no idea where you buy Nomex thread, so mine are usual cotton thread............

I believe that the FIA regulations require that embroidery be sewn only to the outer layer. In other words the emroidery cannot extend into the quilted layers. Not sure about patches though.

Does anyone know where you can get the iron-on sponsor badges made?

I don't think you have use iron-on because the adhesive is not flame retardant, this invalidates the suit.

Really? So you have to use nomex thread? If so, where do you get that?

Pete as mentioned above you cant penetrate all three layers of the suit even with nomex thread.

AWS will give you good advice.

UK scrutineering not normally fussed but when you go to spa they will check this and fail you on it.

I recall that at Goodwood Revival they had a tailor inside the Rolex Drivers Club who was sewing on the Rolex badge for you. Now that's the way to do it..smile

AWS said:
We do not supply threads for aftermarket repairs etc

Hi guys

Being a car freak - owning an Ariel Atom as your daily drive has gotta be a bit freaky, I can make and stitch embroidery patterns. You can see some of the stuff I've done

This is where we got our patches done:

http://www.hot-stitch.com/

They even supply you with the nomex thread in an appropriate colour to stitch them onto your suit.

I can do them but not one and two offs, not worth the bother unless you are prepared to pay good money for the setting up and sewing. A woven badge in Nomex can use as many as 30,000 stiches and is on the machine a long time. My machine can do four at once and thats the only way to make them a viable proposition plus a one off digitising fee.
