Has anyone tried a Leatt Neck Brace as an alternative to the Hans Device?

Jes Bunce in the Tuscan Challenge has tried the KTM Neck Brace, which looks a very similar concept.

Last autumn I played a bit of email table tennis with John Symes at the MSA regarding HANS and the alternatives (specificaly the Hutchens Device that alot of folks in the US use), his response was
"The only devices that are accepted by the FIA as in compliance with their requirements are those commonly referred to as HANS details can be found on the FIA website."

When asked about future plans for making the HANS mandatory...
"No plans at present, the FIA have made it mandatory in certain FIA Championships and by 2010 it will be mandatory in all FIA championships. It is likely it will continue to cascade down. A number of National championships already make ity mandatory in championship regulations."

I know its a bit of a tangent, but it seems that while many of these neck braces and restraint systems appeart to do the same thing, the only ones the FIA and hence the MSA accept are the HANS derivatives.

Does that mean that you can't use a Leatt Brace in an MSA regulated event?

My reading of it is you can't use anything but a HANS device (Scroth, Stand21 etc) when a HANS device is mandated; however if its not mandated you can use whatever you like, OMP/Sparco foam neck brace, Leatt, KTM etc.

All club championships are MSA regulated but almost all them don't mandate any kind of device, you can use what you like or none at all.
