For anyone interested in racing in the new Supercopa I've jut been sent the press release underneath the photo.

The updated cars are fantastic. I drove one at Combe last week and they upgrade from the original SCC spec last year is awesome - makes it a much more complete car. I managed a 1.12.2 round Combe which gives you an idea of where they are at performance wise - thats quick for a FWD saloon car! They look good too - the new wheels and aero make a big difference.

The new SEAT Leon Supercopa UK Challenge has been further boosted with the announcement of their prize fund, endorsed by SEAT UK and supported by SEAT Sport. The fund features three SEAT road cars for the top three drivers in the Supercopa Challenge whilst the top two drivers in the Type R class will be rewarded with an expenses paid race event in Spain.

The series will also benefit from strong TV coverage with nine one-hour programmes and repeats on ITV Men and Motors with highlights shown on both Motors TV and FIVE. Coverage will be further bolstered by web TV streaming.

The SEAT Leon Supercopa UK will be hosted by the highly professional Motorsport Vision Racing organisation and accompanying their premier race categories including Formula Palmer Audi, GT Cup, Speed Championship and Lotus Elise Trophy. The year’s race calendar sees eight race weekends comprising 16 races with sprint and feature race format including an ‘away’ race to the prestigious Spa circuit.

Conscious of the current economic challenges, the series operates two race classes to fit all budgets, the premier Supercopa cars and the entry level Leon Type R.

The season registration fee has been set at £2,950 (+VAT) with free race entries and £700 worth of tyre vouchers from series partner Dunlop. Single race entries are available for £499 (+VAT and are ineligible for tyre vouchers).

Full details are available at the series website at http://www.seatsupercopa.co.uk.

I was out in the Blue Advent Motorsport car (in the top photo of my post) and also had a run out in the Hardinge sponsored car which you got a snap of. The cars are certainly pretty swift - the telemetary is giving a speed of 215-218 kph on the entry to Avon Rise which I guess is FF kind of territory but its the cornering speed which is so impressive for a saloon car. The aeropackage makes a big difference and the cars are around 1.5 secs a lap faster than the old spec SCC cars from the TOCA support judging by the Combe test. Should make for exciting racing.
I was told this morning that entries confirmed so far include ex BTCC racer Simon Blanckley and a handful of ex SCC competitors including Dan Welch and Freddy Nordstrom so its looking like it should be good smile

I think this is going to be a really good series but is it going to be televised?

Sure is.

They announced the TV package at the beginning of the week so not sure if it made it into this weeks press but its got coverage on ITV's MEN AND MOTORS with a specific 1 hour show for each round of the championship. Highlights shows are then being screened on MOTORS TV and also as part of 'Race and Rally UK' on Channel FIVE - Seems a pretty good package to be honest and I had an email from David at Racempower (the organisers) saying that they have got a deal with Men and Motors and Motors TV for reduced advertising in the ad breaks as well which they are happy to pass on to competitors/sponsors which seems quite attractive as well. Hopefully it'll enable people to really leverage their sponsorship - I think one of my sponsors is going to do it and basically produce an ad saying 'this is what we do - watch out for us sponsoring Tim in the Supercopa'.

ETA forgot to add that its also streamed on the net via the www.seatsupercopa.co.uk and its also due to appear on the SEAT website as well. Apparently it'll have an embed ability to allow you upload the footage onto your own websites as well - I'm planning to put the footage on my site for example too smile

Tim ... thanks......Is the streaming live streaming because that would be clever?

If not then what about live timing? One of the frustrations of being so remote from the circuits is that finding out what's happening. BTCC and F1 have this cracked.

Oh and good luck by the way.... Hope you have a good season.

Thanks smile

I'm not sure if the streaming is 'live' I'll have to try and find out! I think that timings will be updated lap by lap though on the TSL Timing website smile

At the moment I believe that they've got about 8 Supercopa's signed up and about 6 Leon R's but obviously their are a few weeks still to go until the first round (April 18th at Donington).

Looks likely there will be at least 2 recent ex BTCC pilots on the grid this season in Supercopa cars which will be good smile

SEAT have confirmed the winner will get a new Leon road car and the second and third will get new road cars too which is pretty cool and gives them a chance to pay back a good chunk of their seasons costs. The winner and second place in the Leon R class get a expenses paid drive with the SEAT works team in Spain driving a Supercopa in an Endurance race out there.

For anyone that might be interested in this, or testing one of the cars there is going to be another 'sampler day' and test day down at Castle Combe on the 26th March. For more details please see the www.seatsupercopa.co.uk website.

I saw a couple of the cars at Advent Motorsport last week- they look fantastic! It looks a really interesting series overall, considering the TV coverage and the prize fund. Hopefully it will have a sizeable grid come the first race, it looks like it deserves to.

Cheers
