hi guys
hopeing in 2 yearsd, maybe 3 of gettin into some racing, as maybe changing jobs soon and hopefully get some mroe money in. now anyone race in that series. ill prob be looking at a xr2. on the site it sayd the year can be done within 4grand, including tyres, fees, fuel. everything but car badically. is that realistic?

I've raced in the XR challenge for 6 yrs now. Champion twice but in the Escort class. Really your budget depends on how quick and how much you'd like to win. Having beaten 4 time Fiesta champion twice this year with outright wins i can tell you its not easy!!!! Money can be spent on tyres,testing and engine spec as well as the car and setup even before you pay for fuel and traveling costs.
The more fun side of it over the winning i think you'll sturggle to find over any other series and so long as you don't take it too serious and enjoy it!!!!
You should contact JASONXR2RACER on here as he races (you guessed) a fiesta and can give you more of a rundown on costs and alike!!!

As Mr Jones said it is a matter of what you can afford as to how well you can do.
I started with a car purchased for £750 (bargain) more or less race ready but needing a good check over/re-build and new seat.
Engine wasn't up to spec first season being a road engine but the fun of just getting out there and racing was immense.
New engine second season and suspension re-build transformed the car into a mid-pack contender with me having only done 5 races the first season.
Me not being very rich or having lucrative sponsors has held me back a bit having to use old tyres and not being able to test or get any proper race tuition but i have always tried my best and have finished evey race over the last 4 seasons.
As said you also need to look at the folk racing in a series and I can only speak highly of the XR guys as we always have a laugh every meeting and racing is always close. The championship is well run by a guy who has been in the business for a long time (Dave Fairclough)who is always happy to give help and advice.
I'm not racing next year due to lack of funds and being let down by my so-called sponsor for this last season and I know now that I will miss it all a great deal. I may try and get out for at least one race cash permitting but I also plan to build a new car for the 2010 season.

Costs for cars depends on spec and condition. You can get a reasonable car for £2ooo upwards but will always need fettling to get reliable for the season. Engine spec is as they call "blueprinted" which is not much more modified than road but your not after power as such more reliability as its always at 5000rpm +! Not being the best engines in the world from new and only developing mid 90bhp you need then to run all year.

I've got my car up for sale at the moment for £3,200 which is as it finished this season. I can make the car a bit cheaper by replacing the front Leda coilovers with standard adjustable Ledas, take out my XL Cobra seat and replace with a Sparco seat, remove my Suede wheel and replace with standard XR2 wheel plus could fit my spare race engine (only did 6 races)and take out my current engine.
to build one from ground up presuming you find a solid Fiesta shell for reasonable money would cost around £6,000 depending how much work you do yourself and what cage you use.
Usually best to buy a car that has raced and you can see what it has achieved.
