Gulf colour scheme

Hello all,

My mate has managed to get hold of a MG Midget and was wondering how much it would cost for someone to spray it in the gulf colours, and where nessacary vinyls. He plans on using the car for sprints and hillclimbing once it is complete.

Is it possible to get this done professionally?

The gulf colour scheme was just a backgroud colour and some stripes, wasn't it?

As regards the gulf stickers, you can take a photo to a print shop and they should be able to make you a vinyl sticker(s).

Easy, innit?

The best race livery ever IMO.

He also asked about cost.

Is it really that simple? I know what Livery I'm having on my "project" when I'm older then.

Tell him to have a look at http://www.mgmidgetchallenge.co.uk/; we're doing some great tracks again next year (donington, oulton, brands, silverstone, cadwell, combe, snetterton and mallory are all of them I think). The championship is amazing fun with great friendship in the paddock.

If he's wondering about racing, he won't regret it if he goes for it.

There's also a lot of advice on making the cars go well, and you might find someone who could paint it, so it might be worth getting in touch even if he doesn't join us (yet)!

When he's got the car painted can you pop a photo or two up, as I'd love to see what a gulf Midget would look like?

I had mine in gulf colours but not laid out like the gulf car, that was until I wrote it off racing at Oulton

Make sure you do your research and get a reliable sprayer, too many cowboy sprayers who forget that painting is an art. A good sprayer should tell you exactly what he is going to do and keep you updated. As for cost it will depend on the painter, but you should have a look at his previous work and remember the most expensive isn't always best! I would give you the contact for my Grandad who restores and modifies classic cars but he is retired and very busy as it is.

As a guide I had my race Midget resprayed at the beginning of 2007 for £400 inc paint. Single colour, almost no prep and 'as it comes out of the gun'. A testament to the sprayer was that it was almost perfect. I regarded that as a very good deal.

I used a graphic company for vinyl stripes and roundels which cost about another £150. Masking accurately for nice curves will cost - a lot
