How did you do?
Discussion
Now that the season is nearing it's end, I thought it would be nice to see how everyone got on in there chosen field. Now's your chance to blow your own trumpet, or cry over what could have been, or dish the dirt on who's fault it was that you didn't win.
I'll start, cos, I'm chuffed at being the 2008 British Formula Vee Class B Champion. Some will look at it as a minor achievement, but I don't think I did too bad for an 'old boy'. Especially as it follows on from 2007 when I managed to write off my first car after a barrel-role which even managed to write-off my helmet against the tarmac. (it didn't hurt, I only banged my head!)

Well done Gallileo!
As for my season, utter disaster. My own car wasn't ready for the start of the season (and it still isn't!), and my only outing was at the pleasure of Revolution Racing in their #99 car at Cadwell Park. Everyone said that an ASCAR wouldn't be any good around there. Well how wrong they were!
Having never sat in one with road course settings, nor Hoosier rubber, I had a steep learning curve. I'm sure we were cut short in practice, and then it took me much of the first race to get my head around the car. In the second race I was on it, and already 3 seconds quicker than my previous fastest lap on our rolling start lap, I then had the pleasure of losing a bolt from the panhard rod at the bottom of the mountain. That was it. Parked in the pitlane.
What I can say is that it was immense fun, and the car was great on a road course.
Had my own work schedule not intervened, I would have had my car finished and out before the season finished.
Looking foward to next year, back on the Oval(s) again, and all being well back out with Harry my potty Thundersaloon in something fun.

This year was the first year since I started racing that I haven't entered a single race. I was just sick of spending what I was spending on racing. I tested in April and just jacked it in after that. Instead, I went off and tried to find another cheaper sport that I could do instead. I tried waterskiing, sailing, kayaking, getting more serious about the running and cycling that I do, and a few other things, including track days. The thing was that I missed motor racing and just wasn't happy. Nothing compared. I've now doubled my budget and I'll be out again next year
did stockhatch again this year, invested in a winter off season rebuild and development programme with lanan racing, who did an excellent job, and found me 1.5 secs per lap at mallory. promptly qualifed a best ever 8th overall, less than 0.3 off the eventual champ, and then got turned around in the first corner and ended up finishing 20th - which was my normal result from last year.
went to brands, feeling confident, but not testing meant i guessed wrong on my settings and went slower than before, finished 20th again. threat of redundancy cat work curtailed my racing until July, when i went 9 secs faster than before in the wet in testing on the friday, only to have a dry race on the saturday, and guessed settings put me 20th. got tangled up in a first lap crash that saw every panel on the car bent. insurance paid out - took 12 weeks, and went to a non championship race at combe to breakdown after half a lap. feel a bit the same a s robm77 about expenditure but.. car now in my garage being worked on, changing all the electrical bits in time for next year, but i still have to work on set up as we are on new tyres. probably won't be out racing until mid year... booo.

After many years of promising myself I finally got my act together and entered some local hillclimbs this past year. I somewhat surprised myself when I was fairly competitive, winning a number of 1st and 2nd in class through the year and even managed FTD twice at Mamhead Hillclimb (no single seaters allowed yet!). Been developing the car through the year and really looking forward to next year and giving the ASWMC championship a real go.
My favourite hill so far has to be Wiscombe and I would love to beat the class record next year. Got within 0.7 secs of it this year which I was really chuffed with.
Most of all though I am just glad I got out and did it. I have really enjoyed both the driving and meeting new people and can't wait for the 2009 season to start!

Did a handful of really enjoyable races (1st time at the amazing Angelsey) before gearbox gave up whilst 4th at Brands (my best running position)then realised unless I am really commited to spending the money on a new engine I aint gonna win so stopped to save up for next year Roll on 2009!

What do you compete in as Wiscombe is my local track and im always there watching.Steve
I failed miserably, I was planning on driving round at the back of the field at the radical clubmans cup, but owing to being a tad busy at work, my winter rebuild didn't finish till august! So I am planning on driving around at the back of the field in next year's Rad Club Cup (that's assuming there's anyone left who can afford to race next year!).
