Hi all

Hoping to tap into the PH pool of wisdom...

In the Blue Book, sprinting section, Rule I46 says "Road-Going Production and Road-Going Specialist Cars: front seats may be replaced by fully trimmed Competition versions in the interests of safety".

So, does this seat:

count as being "fully trimmed"? Or would it need to have some kind of cloth covering the whole seat, not just the cushions? Don't want to shell out for a new seat only to be knocked back by the scrutes!

Thanks for your help guys.

I think you could be in touble on this one - it's not fully trimmed.. Is the weight of the seat really really crucial??

Weight's not crucial - just thought it looked cool! Maybe I should settle for something a bit less flash...

Cheers

I wouldn’t have thought a scruit would have a problem with that seat but as with most of the blue book it is down to opinion. Why not find out who the likely scruits would be at wherever you plan to compete and give one of them a call. Always found them to be a very helpful bunch, think there are contact numbers in the blue book.

In my experience it's not the Scruts that are a problem, it's the other competitors in the class who may think you are gaining an advantage! I would be a bit careful using a seat like that as it doesnt really comly regarding fully trimmed.

Many years ago the definition in the South West Championship for road car seats, suggested that the vehicle in a road going class had to have the correct number of seats, I remember one competitor turning up with plastic stacking chair seat sections fitted in his mini!! hence the fully trimmed idea.

The majority of Caterhams competing in sprints and hillclimbs use Tillet seats and seem to have no problems. What events or championship are you going to be entering? It could be useful to talk to the championship organiser as championships have varying interpretations of the rules.

Much depends if you're competing as road-going or not. If you are, some Championships insist on fully trimmed seats. Tillet will do a fully trimmed seat, but it's slightly not cheap.

Not something you want to be arguing with the scrutineer about at 7 AM on a wet Sunday...

Thanks for all the replies. It's a road going production class that I plan to be in so it sounds like I may have to reconsider my choice of seat. It does rather beg the question - what would happen if I put a Halfords special leopardskin seat cover over the top with holes cut for the harnesses?...

Hi

Am I right you're on about Road going specialist production, i.e. 2A or 2B?

If so I compete in that now, and the seat above (or ones very similar)is currently used in lots of cars in our class with no problems - especially as certain cars that qualify for the class can come with them straight from the factory.
I've also seen bare fibreglass/carbon bucket seats and Kirkey's used too - never ever seen anybody even question the 'trimming' as they're also quite normal in these sort of cars.
