17" 'B' list wets
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm after some advise.
I sprint a TVR Cerbera in the TVRCC Speed Championship.
'08 has been quite a good season for me, with vast improvements over '07. Mainly due to a full suspension rebuild and new 'boots'.
However, as the UK weather appears to be getting worse and worse I'd like to have a set of 'wets' for the soggy races, piloting the Cerb' around Brands on semi slicks in torrential rain felt suicidal!
I currently have Dunlop SZ02s which I love, but, and here's the question, what tyres would you recommend for wets?
As we run a handicap system they can't be cut slicks, but anything from 'B' list down is ok.
I look forward to some suggestions.
Tim

Kumhos V70A (also known as V700) in soft compound actually uses Kumhos F3 'wet' compound rubber, only down side is they dont have huge tread depth from new. that said when ive used them, if its wet enough to stop the treads dispel enough water then generally the Yoko 32s and ACB10s i used wouldnt have worked anyway. the compound soes seem to work well in non-torrential conditions though.
i know some guys 'cut' the V70s to allow more cross cuts for water dispelling. Not legal for some race series (or road use) though, be worth checking
Avon do a popular road legal 'wet', think its CR summat or other, may be worth speaking to BMTR for details.

Talk in the top paddock at a wet Longleat this year seemed to indicate that the R888s were fairly good in the wet. Someone who knew somewhere who lived next door to someone knew the guy who designed them and reckoned they were surprised how good they were as that was not the design intention. Not tried them myself but may well give them a go next year.

Blimey, you'd better talk to the people running on them at Debden last weekend in the torrential rain. They all thought they were bonkers. One of the leading lights in the TVRCC Speed Championship had changed back onto 1A tyres, even though he still had to accept the 1B handicap loading. I was jolly pleased to be on T1-Rs.We used to rally on the Dunlop wets, and they were increadible. We've also been running a car in the cooper S challenge which use dunlops in the wet. Their grip in the standing water is simply amazing, The minis rely a lot on their tyre to put in good laps (lacking power), and the wet times aren't far off the dry with those boots on.
