Why don't we do anything like this?
Discussion
Thanks for the link!! theres some other really amazing hillclimb videos on youtube if you search. We do have hillclimbs in this country but its difficult to run them at any great legnth because its so difficult to get permission to close public roads in mainland Britain. Not the case on the Continent, Isle of Man, Channel Islands etc though obviously!! Shame really, suppose we can all hope one day.

I know we have hillclimbs, just wish they were as good as this! Although Scott Moran and Martin Groves are good to watch. But what part do you like - the cars or the hillclimb?
I don't see what's so superior, although the wider climb would probably be easier on sedan/GT cars more than the tight hillclimbs here in GB so you'd see more of them.
Have they run the Epynt hillclimb yet? I heard they were opening that up for a hillclimb recently.

The hillclimb as it's far better than say gurston or wiscombe. They ran Epynt earlier this month and last year i think. I do know hillclimbing thanks as i follow the british championship where i can. It's superior party because it's longer, if only most hillclimbs were the same length or longer than Harewood.skylinecrazy said:

I don't necessarily agree that longer means better. Maybe if you are driving
Exactly my friend.having seen many a hillclimb in my life, i am convinced that shelsley walsh remains the ultiamte challenge. narrow and unspeakably fast, requiring total commitment from the crossing to the esses. one mistake, well not even a mistake, one slight lift, one brush of the banking and you are out of contention.
longer hillclimbs just give the drier more chance to make up time if they do run wide eariler in the course. hillclimbs should be short and sweet, one chance and thats your lot, requiring a lot more mental prearation and commitment than other motorsport disciplines realise.
Epynt ran 3 or 4 weeks ago, although theres another later in the year iirc.
both GB and euro hills have their place. as for shelsley, id agree its charm is the fact that most cars that run up it, will barely fit crossways on the track!!, so if you have a moment theres NO room for error. tends to focus the mind... ;-)

Still, i love harewood, best hillclimb venue in England IMO.
oh i dunno - i think i prefer Loton Park as a hillclimb - far more technical and tighter than Harewood. But for spectating, Harewood is excellent, as you can see virtually all the track from the paddock at the top... everything except the final corner.
Until the MSA decided the drops off the edge made it a bit risky I used to run a 2.25km hillclimb at Porlock Toll Rd. Any time under 100 secs was good. Pat Doran in his RS200Evo2 was magic on it.
I recently had a chat with the MSA Circuit Inspector and we are going to have a look at a means of resurecting the event in a slightly different format, it has the potential to be longer!!!!
