I thought it might be worth mentioning that my club, The Caterham Graduates Racing Club are running an friends and family race at our Snetterton meeting in August. The idea of the event is to give anyone the chance to see what it's like to do a race during a busy race weekend. The event includes qualifying and a 20 minute race.

Clearly, if you know someone that has a suitable car, this makes things easier. Eligible cars are Caterham 270 or 310R spec cars and cars racing in the official Caterham Championship or the Toyo 7 Series will all be eligible, but there are many teams that have cars available to rent for this event too.

Members of the club are able to be very helpful in terms of loaning safety equipment such as race suits, helmets & hans etc. On top of that the club and teams can help with the simple process of getting ARDS test sorted etc.

This event is open to anyone who hasn't raced before, even if they already have passed their ARDS, but not yet completed.

I thought perhaps it might be worth posting this because it might give someone the chance to tick a bucket list item off their list.

Great idea! That would make a very memorable weekend for any petrol head.

I’d be tempted if I met the requirements.

Would it attract more interest if posted in the Track Day forum?

A full grid of complete novices who have never raced before. What could possibly go wrong. If I had a Caterham I would be very reluctant to hire it out for this race. biggrin

No ARDS test required, side by side racing, similar spec cars? Could be an eventful day!

To be clear, an ARDS test is required, and measures are in place to enhance safety (like a 1 x 1 grid formation rather than the 2 x 2 seen in most Caterham races)

CGRC are making a great effort to help people experience motorsport here, and that should be applauded.
