Hi Folks,
Is there any experiences with Elite sequentials on here? specifically the IL200, I'm considering one but the few people I've spoken to have all advised to go Quaife, problem is the quaife is over double the cost and I know a few people who've had shocking customer service from Quaife so it's tricky to know what's best to do...

Speak to Bara Sing at Bara motorsport. He will know. I looked at Quaife and he told me they were cheap to buy compared to the cost to service and replace parts….he could have sold me one but talked me out of it and got
Me in to a much lower cost option that he did not supply the bits for…seems very honest.

What application ?

Tractive or Samsonas would likely be better, although they're probably aimed at more powerful stuff

Single seater, 200 bhp, 500kg, slicks. Don't thing there's too many small, light sequentials. Sadev is the ideal option but our budget doesn't stretch to one.

What’s your budget? I have a NOS hewland ftr200 with the integrated dry sump tank, bought from TOMS team Toyota in Japan. Cost be €4k plus shipping. It’s too long for my application but seemingly commonplace in single seaters. Ratios would also need checking.

Thanks but this is a RWD box to replace a Ford Rocket box, not a transaxle.

Xshift is the box I’d be fitting to my Evo. There are a number of cars fitted with the box and all are reporting positive things.

If you're looking for a pretty much direct replacement, your options may be limited.

Is it a 4, 5, 6 speed you're after ? How much room ? What sort of power ?

Is it sequential you need, or just a stronger box ?

Avoid Quaife like the plague!
When the gearbox destroys itself after 6 hours use they will just turn round and say its been overheated... send logs over to show the usage and temps from day 1, their next excuse will be that you must of not put oil in, and the oil that is in the gearbox must of been put in to send over to them banghead

Cue speaking to lots of other people/teams, who have had exactly the same responses and outcome, a box full of badly manufactured scrap metal, and no further responses from Quaife, other than them saying they are an engineering company not a Motorsport company!

Do yourself out of the hassle and cost and just avoid at all costs.

Heard this so many times over the years I can’t believe they’re still in business. Had my own dealings with them against my will and it did nothing to improve my opinions of them.

Exactly what was destroyed ?

It seems odd that such a thing could happen, in such a short space of time, even if it was running hard into some sort of endurance race thrashed hard for that 6 hours

G-Force offer a lot of stuff based around old Ford casings, T10 is a common number that appears, no idea if it shares anything with the T9

Doubt they would be as cheap as some of the small offerings from the likes of Elite or Quaife.

What about asking Gearboxman ? Barra ? Glebe ?

But I do know that both Samsonas and Tractive make very good product. You'd hardly go wrong with either of those.

It's not that odd.
Folks in our formula have had their fair share of Quaife issues, like sending them a sequential box for a service and it being returned with two third gears, no fourth, Quaife refused to accept it was their fault.
Another guy bought a new box from them, before fitting made sure it was ok when on the bench, input shaft seized solid, took it down to Quaife who wouldn't even look at it whilst he waitied, he had to do the 5 hour round trip again a few days later when they'd decided to be bothered to look at it.
They're a baffling company.

So you can't state what actually failed ?

And unless there was some prior agreement that allowed a customer to be present during a strip down, and the staff would arrange time for this....why on earth would someone thing just rocking up with a gearbox, they'd immediately do this ?

I'm not saying good or bad about Quaife...but the above seems a little odd.

But as said, You'll be hard pushed to go wrong with either Tractive or Samsonas. They're very proven units

Quaife don't seem to be the same company they were in the 90's, always helpful when I popped in there back then, used to run their Group 1 Gear Kit in my Ford 'Type 5' Gearbox, Halfshafts and LSD.

So when I was looking to change to a sequential a couple of years ago they seemed the obvious choice, especially as they did a bellhousing to mount theirs to a Modular/Coyote.

Well I went with a Tractive RD906 in the end, even though it was a lot more work as I had to modify a T45 bellhousing and make my own adapter plate. Couldn't be happier with the gearbox and the service.

Coincidentally I was talking to the team who currently prep & run a quite well known driver of a Mk II Escort at the weekend. He has used a Quaife 4 speed since the 70's, I read recently he was using a ZF which I was surprised at.
Seems the reason is much the same as mentioned above, mate had an Elite sequential in a Red top engined Escort which performed perfectly.

I ran a 5 spd elite IL200 in my Westfield. I broke it a few times but one was due to my ham fisted changes and second I built it myself. When I got the upgraded shaft and the by the factory it was solid.

I swapped it for a 6spd which I thought was much better.

Mine ran with a 270hp duratec. It was incredibly light compared to the Quaife 60G I have in my escort.

I still have some gears for sale for an IL200.

Changing drop gear ratios was great and very easy too. I'll miss being able to do that.

If I see an IL300 come up I might sell the Quaife. They're good boxes.

Surprised you went with a 6 speed IL200 with that much power, must have been on the limit of its capability, they say the 6 is limited to 200 ft lb and the 5 to 250.
