Hi,
Looking to buy a pair of boots to replace me old Sparco Slaloms (which to be fair still have plenty of life in them). Any pros/cons with leather as opposed to suede, laces or Velcro or quick tighten/release (ratchet systems) etc?
Thanks.

A very specific case I know but I spent about 300 quid on OMP boots which are made of Kangaroo leather and have a ratchet fixture because the suppleness of the leather made it possible for me to fit into a pair which were a size or two smaller than my usual shoe size and therefore into my very small car, and the ratchet fixture makes them very quick to take off and put on again which means that I'm not walking around the paddock in them like a little Geisha girl. Whilst I am racing my current small car I will be buying these boots.

Until now I have had Suede boots costing a fraction of the price. As is generally the way with motorsport safety equipment, they are pretty much all homologated to the same safety standard and you can pay the earth for a weight saving which amounts to a Mars bar.

Leather seems to be less resistant to knicks and abrasion than Suede which seems more durable to me- but I'd say that Suede is heavier and less flexible.

I think I bought the same boots yesterday!, was drawn to the supple leather and the ratchet fastener for ease of removing/ fitting as you mentioned.
