Hi all,
This is a shout out to any Oxfordshire based racers/track dayers/hillclimbers/sprinters ( or at least within an hour of Oxford) to see if they want to join the South Oxfordshire car club. look them up on google.
Most motor clubs are best avoided, and most racers affiliate to the club that runs the championship they are competing in, however this club's focus is mostly social.
To date it's organised the following:
Trip to Tuthill workshops
Quadbiking
Rage buggy racing
Karting
Drinking in pubs.
and trips to BSB, BTCC, rallies etc. Oh and golf days and hospitality to Oxford FC.
it also organises video nights, gaming nights, autotests, 12 cars and night rallies etc.
Fundamentally motor clubs generally have a rally background, but this one is a car club, and it wants more racers, track dayers, classic car enthusiasts to join. it is a very good club to join if you aren't currently involved in motorsport but want to be, or like me, have few close motorsport friends who can help and assist you in your endeavours.
In my short time there I've picked up offers of people coming to my races to help me out. Therefore if you are on your own a bit with your motorsport but particularly racing driving then we'd welcome your membership. It currently has around 100 members and is the fastest growing motorsport club in the UK. Lots of members work in the motor trade as garage owners, technicians and the like but there's many other professions represented as well including professionals. And the network of support is great. And if you can give back by getting involved so much the better. And yes I know most car clubs are full of old curmudgeonly men who hark back to the 70's. But this one isn't like that. It has quite a young membership profile.
It is particularly relevant to those who live nearish Oxford, but we have members from Slough to Bath, to Northampton and Newbury and everywhere in between.
So please review the poll if you are a racer ( or a driver that has avoided the loose, so far) let me know if you would benefit from a few extra like minded friends - there's even a rumour of a racer v rallier auto test coming up...
we will still want more members from other disciplines as well.
