I've just bought a race car from America, I plan to run it in the CSCC in 2022, so falls under MSUK blue book regs.
I'm not sure about the roll cage. the car is under 2000cc, so according to the blue book only needs to comply with image k1 or k2. ie a half cage only.

in my new car the green tube loops around the front and back to the yellow on the other side and is supported by the purple A pillar tubes.
my interpretation of the regs, the purple tubes should either go up the A pillar and back to the main roll bar forming a lateral rollbar, or they should go across the top of windscreen and down the other A pillar forming a front rollbar, with just a short tube in the cant rail connecting main and front roll bars

Technical Specifications
1.3.1. Main, Front and Lateral Rollbars. These frames or
hoops must be made in one piece without joints.

I would argue that the yellow main hoop is legal according to the blue book k1 image, and anything forward of that is just additional. I don't have front or a lateral roll bar made in one piece without joint.

does anyone here know any better than I do? or does anyone have contacts for who I should be talking about this with.

if your car is ,as you say, less than 2000cc, then the design of your front roll hoop is almost immaterial as you are not required to have one.

You'd need to ensure that the back half of the cage is as per K1 or K2, but the front can have all sorts of bends in it and there's not a lot a scrutineer can do.

However whether you'd want to race a car with a suspect roll cage is debatable

Is your diagram, showing the main hoop made of straight sections with pre-formed bends welded in correct, or is it formed in one length from the 'foot' on one side, to the same point on the other side.
If it's the former (i.e. formed bends welded to straight tubes) then it's illegal. If it's one piece, then it should be OK, although you might want to check that the diameter and wall thickness of the tube is compliant.
Don't know what the car is, obviously, but if they list it, I'd be inclined to get an homologated cage from Safety Devices or similar. Might save a lot of grief (with the scrutes) in the long run. wink

Thanks for the responses.

Yes the main hoop is 1 bar with 4 bends in it.

I’d rather not replace with an SD cage, as it is a good cage, it’s just built to a different standard to ours. It’s also got a bar under the dash and forward to the front suspension.

Probably worth having this conversation with the technical Dept of MSUK? Or maybe getting a local senior scrutineer to have a look. I think contact details of scrutineers are available from MSUK.

I realise this is the most sensible option, and I have now made contact with a scruitineer. But forums would be boring if the stock answer was, to go and contact someone that actually knows the answer. smilehehe
