I'm looking to buy a set of race underwear and I've bought a couple of tops/bottoms/balaclavas to find the most comfortable for myself but I wanted to ask, is there any difference in wearing black vs white in terms of temperature.
I'm sure everyones parents at one point told them not to wear a dark tshirt on holiday as they'll get too hot
but does that matter for race underwear? I assume not as you're not in direct sunlight but thought I'd check before buying something that will hopefully last a few years!
Secondly, I've been looking at a Freem suit, does anyone have experience with them or HRX? They both seem to offer the similar tailored/custom designed suit but I'm looking (as everyone is) for the lightest/coolest one within reason.
Thanks

I don’t think colour makes a difference, for the under suit stuff I use walero which has cooling stuff which does seem to work.
I switched from, an albeit cheapest end OMP suit to a mid range Alpine stars one this season.... floating arms are a must it makes it so much comfier, the alpine one is again much cooler. My friend had an HRX suit made and loves it.

If it's not exposed to sunlight, colour won't make a difference.
If temperature is an issue, look here: https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/s/racewear-helm...
Friend uses this underwear and has noticed a big temp difference.

Worth checking out Marina, some of the lightest suits about and also a unique material, same goes for the underwear range https://www.lhmotorsport.co.uk/?product_cat=marina...
I'm just wondering whether you might be overthinking this a tiny bit? It's just race underwear and from my experience I've never encountered anything uncomfy! And once the race adrenalin kicks in, you don't notice anything. I once did a whole race with a broken wrist (from a first corner fracas) and only noticed when I parked up and tried to get out of the car at the end!
I'm not really overthinking it, I'm just asking for a bit of advice before I spend £300 on some race gear. Theres hundreds of options so it makes sense to ask peoples advice on it before buying something and realising I could get something better for the money. I suppose next time I'll just buy the first thing I see and keep shtum. Thanks for your help!
I think that it started as fashion, when everyone else's kit was off-white.
The only real advantage is that it doesnt stain (no pun intended), so can be a little more practical in one respect.
On a hot day though, when you have slipped out of the top of your suit, you WILL notice the difference between a black and a white shirt.

I've ordered Alpinestars ZX Evo and Walero sets to see which fits better.
Is a loose fit better or tighter? Or does it make no difference to temperature/fire safety with a suit on over?
Will be interesting to see what you think of Walero, I've only heard positives from people that have swapped over. Is a loose fit better or tighter? Or does it make no difference to temperature/fire safety with a suit on over?
Returned the Alpinestars and Sparco sets, kept the Walero. Not used them in-car yet but from reading around the Walero seems to get very positive reviews.
Easiest way to describe them from just trying them on; the Alpinestars/Sparco ones were more of a stretchy base layer whereas the Walero feel like nice quality pyjamas
