I’m a newbie to shared drives, but may have an opportunity to share a car in the CSCC Swinging Sixties next year. The only problem is that my shared driver is a strapping six footer, and I’m somewhat, erm, vertically challenged.

Has anyone who’s shared a car or built one to be shared got any tips or advice for making the car shortass-compatible during the 2 min stop, or vice versa?

Haven’t yet found a blue-book compliant booster seat hehe

K2.2.1. says you can use the original seat adjusters, or those from the seat manufacturer

And you could also mould a seat insert from someone like indiseat to make a shell that suits you and another to suit the other chap.

what you do, is have adjustable sliders like on a normal car, where all the way forward is your position, all the way back is his position ( once you've spend a bit of time in the workshop working out the exact loactions for both) (that doesn't mean all the way forward, all the way back, just the limits of where each driver needs to sit)

Be aware that the belts are often the bigger issue here. Unless the taller guy is also significantly wider, you will need to be able to adjust the waist straps to suit each driver - not always a quick process.

Having shared with a shorter driver we were able to find a compromise seat position that actually worked ok for both of us which also meant less strap adjustments.

Forgot to mention it in my reply on Facebook but Steve is correct about harnesses. Many manufacturers do endurance specific harnesses now which have quick adjusters on the lap straps too. I would recommend the Schroth ones.

There may be some advantage running the sturdier driver first then belts are tightened rather than slacked off for the 2nd driver which should be easier.

if you run the bigger driver first, the harness may tighten as you move the seat forward for the smaller driver

Each driver is likely to want their share of the starts - that’s where a lot of the fun is.

That also works in reverse. I.e the straps will get looser as you move the seat back. It’ll only work if the taller driver is also a lot fatter.
