Recommendations please for something to reliably demist the windscreen on my car (BMW E36) and keep it demisted. Had terrible problems at the last race we did to the point that despite pitting twice to clear the screen we eventually retired the car because we couldn’t see out of the screen. Car hasn’t got the original heater in it (we bought the car like that a few years ago) but does I believe have an E36 cabrio rear window demister mounted under the dash that fails spectacularly to keep the screen clear. We typically race for 45 mins at a time but have in the past done races lasting up to 3 hours. Heated screens, electric heaters, what works and what doesn’t please and any other tips to keep it clear, have tried RainX defogger with limited results in the past.

We used Rainx anti-fog on a terrible day at Combe recently and it was brilliant.. amazing difference. Have seen mixed reviews, and yours, but not sure why this would be.

I built one out of an air pump, bit of pond tubing and drainage pipe with holes drilled in it.

Worked great.

refit the OEM heater ?

Let's face it...it's tried and tested to work.

Or go heated screen. T7Designs do a range of heater boxes too, as to whether they'd be as good as the OEM though is another matter.

Apparently, when Gary Anderson went rallying he would rub half a raw potato on his windscreen to stop it fogging up.

+1 to fitting a heated screen. Tried everything over the years and nothing works as well as a heated screen. Not always available for every car but appears to be in this case.

I use an inline blower like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/SEAFLO-Line-Marine-Bilge-... and some tumble dryer hosing connecting it to where the OEM blower got an air feed from and the other end to the windscreen vents on the dash (or you could just point it at the screen). It light but moves a huge amount of air and has kept my car mist free even during the wettest of Birkett Relay races!
