No Chateau Impney for 2020.

Looks like no more hillclimb's at Chateau Impney, which is a shame.

It was on my list - I have stayed there for CSCC dinner a couple of times and walked the course - black lines still visible in October..
But lots of other venues to enjoy - Shelsley and Prescott are enchanting, and my local , Harewood , offers great views over nearly the entire course . If anyone has never been to a speed hillclimb I highly recommend them .
Because -
-unlike nearly all modern motorsport it doesn't have tedious spec formulae , BoP and all that crap
- it is usually 'access all areas' with little or no corporate privilege
- you get really , really close to the action
- you can get to see anything from a T35 Bugatti to a Mk 2 Escort or a 1000 bhp/tonne slicks and wings single seater

all the above is true, however it's not particularly good value as a competitor. Approx 5mins of track time per day, for the admittedly small cost of about £120 plus travel fuel. A tank of race fuel could last 3 years, and so could the tyres.
However on a per hour basis it's more expensive than circuit racing.

"Horses for courses" Not everyone who competes, wants to do circuit racing. However on a per hour basis it's more expensive than circuit racing.
Exactly and pay far, far more. There is more challenge I would say in speed events, more emphasis on you as a driver. PLus they are cheaper, more friendly, and much, much nicer locations.
only issue is travelling, as a lot of venues are all in the same location, so if you lived in say Lincolnshire you would be dong insane amounts of travelling!

That's me then! I live in South Lincs and drive my car to all the events I enter. Just spent an enjoyable few days sorting hotels/pubs for my 2020 plans. Most are within a couple of hours or so from my house, even Harewood, but there is a weekend down at Pembrey and Llandow to look forward to. I may need to buy a trailer...only issue is travelling, as a lot of venues are all in the same location, so if you lived in say Lincolnshire you would be dong insane amounts of travelling!
Chateau Impney - I had an entry last year and can tell you that as a competitor it was simply one of the most entertaining events I've been to. Incredibly friendly, challenging track, relatively low cost for the two days of competition, and a fabulous black tie dinner on the Saturday. No idea why it's cancelled, but I'd love to know what comes next. The letter I received said very little other than they are now focussing on 'the next chapter' whatever that is.
