Trailer insurance
Discussion
Any recommendations for trailer insurers please? It will be for a new PRG Monza.
I've never bothered previously but old PRG was hit by another vehicle last November in circumstances that clearly weren't my fault. I've managed to get a full cost recovery using my legal expenses cover for my tow vehicle, but it was very slow and rather painful, and had it not been so clear-cut I could have seen me being significantly out-of-pocket.
Thanks
Jason

At a fairly considerable price, as seems to be the case with all specialist insurers.
I’ve switched insurers several times, for an HSCC Ford Anglia 105e. Value is an agreed 23k, and insurance is solely for when it’s in my garage and when it’s being transported to a maximum of 6 events a year. Can’t get it below £280, despite paying less for 14k miles per annum in my road car worth the same amount (ok slightly less).
Anyway, boring rant, sorry, Newsnight is on and I have nothing better to do...

Not sure if this is entirely relevant but I move cars for a living. My goods in transit insurance goes up to £25,000 with the insurers asking if I had a more valuable car I should call them and they would temporarily increase the cover at no cost. When I called them to say I'd had an enquiry to move a poorly Aston Vanquish they blinked and said no. I called the customer who thanked me for alerting him. He called back ten minutes later to say it was okay, his insurer said the car is covered on his insurance even if it is being transported. I moved it from AM Cambridge to AM Cheltenham on the customer's insurance cover.
Ask your insurer why the circumstances of how the car moves has any bearing on the insurance.

I've insured my trailer with Stoneways for years and continue to do so now they have been taken over by KBIS: https://www.kbis.co.uk/our-products/trailer-insura...
I pay about £70/year for a Brian James Minno valued at around £2000.

REIS do the lot for me: racing car and trailer in storage and transit. They're always quick to answer the phone and good to deal with, so I have no complaints. Price seems decent too, but I've nothing to compare against really.
Same for me - about £8K value on the trailer, £27K on the race car and £1K worth of tools cover for roughly 500 quid.Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
