Good morning all,

Just wondering if anyone has advice/soloutions on how to get a Go Pro to last over two hours while mounted in the car?

Thinking of using a power bank and hooking it up to that rather than the internal battery?

Any advice / tips welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Edit - device is a Go Pro Hero 7 black

I have a 12v to 5v USB socket wired in at the mid-point of my car with the go-pros plugged into that. I can switch it off and on from the switch panel if needed.

Either hardwire them in or use a powerbank securely mounted.

Has anyone had issues with hard wiring a go pro as when I spoke to them a month or so ago they didnt recommend it but didn't say why.

I ended up buying a hero 4 as it has the option of an external battery which clips on the back, managed to get over 2 hours out of it at Donington a couple of weeks ago.

GoPro 7 battery is a 4.4volt battery being a sensative electrical device probably wants a clean and stable supply which may be difficult to get on a 12v car, plus you loose waterproofing with the door open.

I'd be tempted to use a decent powerbank with a USB output and then a long USB-C cable to the camera. That way the powerbank can be stowed in an accessible place to remove it from the car for charging.

Out of interest can I ask how much battery life you are getting from the standard battery? And the relevant settings.

Mines pretty poor and wondering whether its this unit or the hero 7 in general.

Any decent 12v USB supply that can be fitted to a car should be providing power every bit as clean as a powerbank. After all they are 12v as well.

This is probably obvious, but ensure that the wi-fi is switched off when you've finished using it to align the camera etc.

Yes.. I fried my hero 3 black edition by hard wiring it and leaving the bluetooth on to control it remotely. It apparently got too hot.. GoPro replaced it FOC but this was years ago when it was still current.
