I race an Anglia in CTCRC pre 66 Championship. This year the Regs allow us to use list 1A tyres as long as they are 70 profile in addition to the usual Dunlops. My wheels are the max allowed 13 x5.5. Is there anything out there worth buying? Dunlops are now about £180 each frown

You could use the Avon CR322. They are only available in 185/70R13 and were the control tyre for the Caterham Academy. They are on list 1a, albeit with an asterisk suggesting that they may be removed from next year's list.

They are quite a hard compound and I have no idea how they would perform compared to your Dunlops but they are available for £75 each from Caterham - https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/2737-tyre-avon-1...

You can also get uniroyal rainexperts or Goodyear efficient grips in a suitable size. These might be worth testing as a full wet option. You could get a full set for the price of a single Dunlop, so cheap. But no idea how the Goodyear’s would compare in the dry.

I’m assuming that when you say Dunlop you are referring to L or M sections?

If so, then any List 1a tyre will see a significant drop in lap times, as the Dunlops have so little grip. However, and personal opinion only, the lack of grip is a lot of appeal both to drivers and spectators, it’s simply fun!

I race an Anglia with the HSCC, and the HRSR committee has rejected a move to List 1a more than once for these reasons. I can (just) stomach £180 a tyre, but only because they last a season with me. If I had a Mustang or similar my opinion might be different! Also note a caution that several drivers experienced body shell problems due to the increased grip when ICS historic touring cars allowed modern tyres.

That said, if you have the option, as you do, List 1a is cheaper and quicker.
