Adrian Flux Won't Insure Non-Road Legal Vehicles...?
Discussion
I'm trying to sort out my insurance for the season, and I've been told that Adrian Flux - MSUK's insurance partner that offer discounts etc. to members - cannot offer me motorsport insurance as my car has been SORN'd and is therefore not road legal... Is this correct? It seems utterly bizarre that MSUK would partner with an insurance company that cannot insure dedicated race cars.
They do rally car insurance which is probably where the confusion comes from. You can get 10% of that insurance if you're a Motorsport UK license holder.

What sort of quotes are you guys getting? I got quoted £2k from Reis, despite my car only being worth around £8k. It's my first year of racing though so I guess this is counting against me. But £2k seems too steep. I might just risk it for a biscuit at that price, to be honest. Going to have a shop around this week though.

I only insure my 105e Anglia (worth 25k, but would cost about 80k to replicate, don’t worry, I paid the first price!) for trailer and garage, not on track. But even that costs 280.I'd suggest trying phoning again and getting through to a different sales person.
SORN just means that it's been declared off the road for tax and continuous insurance reasons.
My car was insured for the entirety of last year despite it also being sorn'd all year also. It's still perfectly road legal (well, it needs a new mot now). Although my vehicle isn't for motorsport reasons, just the fact that I had a newborn so could never get the time to go out in it!

I've never bothered insuring any of my race cars as the premium and excess just doesn't make it worthwhile to me. Insurance is just gambling at the end of the day.If I had a car worth 100k then I would probably insure it but I build my own cars and I've never spent more than 15k. I do have storage and transportation insurance though as that's far more reasonable.

Ah ok I might do it if that's what most people do. My storage is impregnable (car is in a warehouse behind a police-manned barrier, and then there's another barrier as well - two forms of pass/ID required to be allowed through!) so I'll probably just insure it for transportation. If I had a car worth 100k then I would probably insure it but I build my own cars and I've never spent more than 15k. also worth giving these guys a try

I've never had any positive dealings with Flux despite giving them a number of opportunities.
+1. In fact, I have had the most negative insurance experience ever with one of their total bellend customer service idiotsWould never call them again after many moons ago they quoted me by far the highest price on a stripped out track day 306 I ran, was at least 200 quid more than even my normal insurer, let alone other specialists.
They just spend a bunch on advertising, that's why they get clients, probably do a lot of fleets and stuff too.
