Has anyone used these Nankang AR1 things?

Currently run 235/50/15 R888 as they are the widest tyre I could find for a 15” rim but have noticibly less grip than some cars around us.

Most use the Dunlop but they don’t make them wide enough for me. (215)

This leaves me with either buying another set of wheels and running 16” Khumo V70a 265/40/16

Or I can stick with the 15” rims and try the 245/40/15 AR1

Does anyone have experience of the AR1 compared to the 888? I don’t car about wet weather as I can run proper wets and I don’t care about cost or longevity. Just outright grip for 20 minute races.

Or of course any other suggestions? Car is under 800kg with approx 460bhp.

Thanks

Mike

I have them on my Caterham and like them. A mate of mine has them on his MG Midget and thinks they are slightly heavier than 888s but about the same lap times.

AR1's take a lap or two longer than 888's to get up to temperature, but don't appear to have a longer optimal window.

I think that very much depends on the car.

On the Elise the AR-1s will run for two hours without dropping performance at all.

I'm sure you're right. I can only speak from my experience with a 1300 kg tin top.
