Hi there,

I really want to apply for my National B licence, but I'm wondering if a history of concussions may stand in my way.

I ask this as I have been hospitalised 3 times in the last 3 years after getting knocked out. Twice through sport (rugby and football), once through a freak accident watching sport (football booted off my head from point blank range). Whilst these were some 15yrs prior, I also had 2 other concussions as a teenager.

I know the doctor is maybe the best person to ask, but I was just wanting to get opinion before starting proceedings.

Cheers

Probably not what you want to hear but every case is different so you're better of calling Motorsport UK (MSA) and taking their advice. I doubt they'll be able to say anything 100% until they've heard from your doctor.

Speaking from experience, Motorsport UK's medical department have a great deal of understanding of, and specific protocols for concussion.

Rather than speaking to your GP I would advise you to call or email them first, explain your history and ask them what they think.

Be aware, however, that you are likely to be unable to renew online or without a doctors note (my experience from declaring I’d suffered from severe depression in the past)
