Hi
Does anyone have any experience of Avon race tyres both slicks and wets that they can share.
Thanks
David

I have used them for sprints and hillclimbs on a 320 kg single seater. The crossplys were brilliant but found the radials were not getting up to temperature, which was thought to be the lack of weight in the car.

Used them on F3 derived cars but switched to Pirelli (regulations). The Pirellis were cheaper, faster and more durable, but took longer to 'come in' from cold compared to the Avons.

Wider choice of compounds in the Avon.

Thanks Andrew.
I am going to use them on a Radical on track days.
Up until now I have used Dunlop’s but did try the Avon slicks which came in much faster.
Have you experience of the Avon and Pirelli wets?
Thanks David

There’s a brace of new compounds in development at Avon which we’ve been testing. All made for the 13” F3 sizes and SR3 size.

Josh.
That is very interesting.
I tried of Lee's Avon slicks when the car was being run by Puremotion Motorsport before Lee went to Malaysia and was impressed by the grip levels over the Dunlops.
Unfortunately I have never got to try their wets so as I want to get some new tyres for this year I was going to go for the Avon slicks and was uncertain whether to stick with Dunlop wets or also switch to Avons.
Do you know when these new compounds will be going into production?
Thanks
David.

Most people used the wet version of the dry slick they chose and both Avon and Pirelli wee fine. Wet races are much more cautious by the nature, plus a much wider scope of conditions from damp to torrential.

Michelin’s wet seemed to be the better than both, but had to remember to do other setup stuff as the tyres were not exactly the same size.
