Interesting series, it's a shame that you can't swap out parts across the RX8 range as the OEM PZ Bilstein suspension is miles better than stock (especially when combined with the stiffer R3 ARB's).
Have a few questions, I notice that the regulations allow the fitment of a SOHN for engine reliability and longevity issues so by the same reason I think the uprated oil pressure mods should be allowed as well.
This is meant to be a stock series yet the D585R coils mentioned in the draft regs coil could be classed as performance enhancing items and also need a remap to alter the stock coil dwell timings on the ECU.
Being over 15 years from launch lots of RX8's have been rebuilt, with a streetport costing only a couple of hundred pounds it's a no brainer when the engines apart.
How will this rule be enforced, especially for people who have bought a second hand car that's previously had a rebuild and may not know exactly what works been done whilst the engine has been apart?

I was chatting about this series with some people at the weekend and they made exactly the same points. Given the level it's aimed at I can't see many people opening up their engines to see what they've got. As long as it runs that will be good enough for them and then there is going to be a lot of problems at the first race when the straight line speeds are all over the place.

You CAN fit the PZ Bilsteins and ARBs, along with loads of other modifications and move into class C of the RSV Graphics New Millennium series. The RX8 Trophy class however is designed to keep spending and time to build a car to a minimum, therefore will stick to the standard 231 suspension.
You make a good point about the oil pressure mods; I have spoken to other about this who have tracked and raced their cars without this and have been fine, but will research and considering adding it to the list of things you could do, in the interests of reliability.
There is no need to remap to use D585R coils, indeed this won't be permitted. They do appear to be a reliable alternative to stock coils, if the driver wishes to fit them.
You are right that there are cars out there with varying degrees of modifications including porting. The responsibility lays with the competitor to take all reasonable steps to ensure their cars comply with the regulations. Self-scrutineering will take place, along with invited specialists who will work with our club chief scrutineer. A winners time penalty will help to peg back a dominant car/driver combination and the rules will allow a suspiciously strong car to be moved to a different class. I don't want to list what, when and how things will get checked, all I will say is that this is part of an established series rather than a championship, with an aim of making circuit racing an affordable hobby, to those who are short of time, space or money. We're not naive enough to think that cheating won't take place, but their are plenty of places that those wishing to 'tinker' with their cars can race.
So far the 15 or so ladies and gents who have bought cars seem to have fully embraced the concept.

Made it to Silverstone yesterday. Looked a good spread of Mazdas, but they were a bit outgunned in "New Millenium" with some big speed differences. Would have thought that running in the Turbo Tin Tops is a better fit for this year.Good going for only second meeting of the year.
