Southern car club are running an Autosolo at Kempton Park racecourse on the 14th of October.

It will be the first event out of Circuit racing that is taking entries from Hybrid cars.

If you are a uber driver and want to see how fast you are in that Prius you now can!

We will also take Mclaren or a Lexus or if you have a normal petrol engine too.

I hope they have read the MSA safety recommendations for Hybrid vehicles. We looked at including a hybrid class on our CT’s and Autotests. Once we read what we would need to do to satisfy MSA we dropped it like a hot brick.... or perhaps a burning hybrid!.

It is quite simply horrifying what they expect if one of those things catches fire.

Yes, same here, the CSCC allowed Hybrids in their Turbo Tin Tops series, until the MSA requirements for fire prevention were released.

There was a Honda Insight being used for rallying over 10 years ago with a modest amount of success (within its class).

The rules have been changed and hybrids are no longer allowed, but reading articles in 2011 suggests the car was considered too fast vs its class rivals.

The club have been in talks with the MSA and we have satisfied them.

TBH with the low speed and big open spaces of autosolos they have very low risk attached compared to rallying or circuit racing.

I've seen a Tesla and a Nissan Leaf at sprints at Rockingham.
