UK's first 'closed road' hillclimb event
Discussion
Have you ever been to Watergate Bay? It's stunning.
Also boasts an excellent hill, an ideally situated paddock and plenty of hotel / camping facilities. The event is also well supported and will attract plenty of spectators.
There's motorway and dual carriageway almost non stop from the South East and you can be there in around 4 hours.

And it's not the UK's 1st.
Craiganlet's been held since 1913.
Good luck to those organising, looks like their website's down.
They have done the smart thing and got a page on facebook though. Craiganlet's been held since 1913.

It's a really positive step, and should be a great event. Worth the trip. I've stayed cycled up the hill before and it should be interesting. Would have entered, but already committed that weekend.
The level of promotion is also at the other end of the scale as compared with what occurs for your traditional speed events. Hopefully it will encourage others to make more news about the great venues and events that they have.

It is positive that the event is happening.
But really you might aswell be having an event on the moon, it's so far away.
The entry list was open for three days and has been closed. I can only assume that the limit of 300 was reached. Hillclimbing in the south west is huge and is the most competitive speed region in the country, there are several venues in Cornwall. But really you might aswell be having an event on the moon, it's so far away.
Hopefully this may encourage clubs in other parts of country to do the same.

You do realise that a considerable number of people live outside of the Home Counties, and enjoy events at places that aren't near you, don't you? Fercrisakes... But really you might aswell be having an event on the moon, it's so far away.
South West is a big centre for speed events sadly, great for people that live there and in the area, but you do get the impression it is never likely to move out of there.
I lived for years in Lincolnshire, nowhere near a speed event location of any note, so no great shock I never watch it much.
Just a shame that these events could not happen more centrally, open them out to people who might ahve never seen them.

The problem with having Speed Events in the South East and East Midlands is your profound lack of hills. (Sprinting doesn't float my boat)I lived for years in Lincolnshire, nowhere near a speed event location of any note, so no great shock I never watch it much.

If you want centrally located - try Shelsley in Worcestershire, or Loton Park in Shropshire, or Harewood just north of Leeds or Prescott in Gloucestershire.
There'll be one within a couple of hours of you - not the biggest treck for a day out.
I live in Buckinghamshire and compete in the Midland Hillclimb Championship.
Honestly Chunder, you do seem to be pretty blydi negative about almost everything you comment on that isn't motorsport from your youth....
