UK Race Overalls & Helmet Standard
Discussion
After 20 years I'm dusting off my race boots again, I have ordered, but not yet received, the 2018 Blue Book and I have also have my ARDS theory scheduled.
I have just been up to the loft to retrieve my kit, it has been there undisturbed for 20 years! The Shoei race helmet that I purchased new in 96, has a RAC Yellow sticker "Approved for International Motorsport". Will this still be valid? My race suit has an embroidered FIA badge that says 1986 Standard 01.065.RAC.88. Same question, will this still be valid?
Both are in immaculate condition and I'm planning to complete in one of the UK Classic Saloon series.

No to both - race suits must be to FIA 8856-2000, and your helmet must be either FIA 8860-2004 approved (or newer) or Snell SA2005 (or newer). Snell SA2005 goes out of date at the end of 2018 though. You’ll also now need FIA approved boots and gloves, and a HANS device or equivalent.
The above only applies to circuit racing, different rules apply for rallying, sprinting etc.

While you wait for your copy, have a look here as the Yearbook is available free as a PDF.
Cheers, I just found that. I can't see anything to say that both the helmet and the overalls would not be considered compliant, mind you does beg the question of if I can still fit into the overalls!Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
