Who’s up for a Pistonheads meet there? Remember to bring a crate of beer, so we can sling the bottles everywhere laugh

Some people have nothing better to do!

Can't say I'd be too happy if they decided to host a rally through my street, I don't see why it makes you angry that people are worried about this. As the article notes, a primary concern is that by publishing the route in advance, you get the heroes who show up for a go, without the roads being closed or the various safety precautions.

This has been bubbling for a while, she is clearly very ill informed and quite ignorant of what a closed road Stage Rally is. However it hasn’t helped that a lot of people in the rally community have been quite vocal and equally ignorant on social media.
I think it will probably all settle down after the event has been run and it goes smoothly with well behaved and respectful spectators. Much like the JCR did and eventually will again.
Good on Chelmsford MC for putting their neck on the line.

My road is closed every year for the local marathon. How do I stop them doing it?

This may not be a serious question

If I'm being honest I can understand how someone elderly in a nice house might not be too impressed at the prospect of a bunch of cars tearing around at the end of their drive.

Indeed, which is why the rally community needs to understand and educate, not criticise. We’ve been in situations like this in the Road Rallying community for decades, it’s all about being sensible and grown up about it. When I read some of the posts on Facebook from so called rally people I despair.
But they are in a minority and it will be fine.

It looks like she's got used to her road being closed for quite some time.

The shear amount of misinformation and false statements make me angry, especially the insurance bit where "her friend who works for an insurer" says she won't be covered.

It's this ignorance that leads to us getting a bad name with the normal folk

Some girl said to me 'I am going to come into your garden with a crate of beer and I am going to sling the bottles everywhere and we are going to have a great time.
Is it just me that doubts that this exchange ever took place?

Fantastic grasp of the English language by the reporter, too:

"I would imagine there insurance for the day is going to be pretty steep"
"we have had incidents already where the route has been trailed doing hand break turns"

I'd be happy for a car rally to come down my street. But, I'd be upset if a bunch of fox hunters with horses and hounds Sh**ing in the street making a noise and smell came down my street especially if my insurance wouldn't cover it.

Actually, these are quotations that the reporter has cited. Possibly a reflection of the general level of intelligence among the ill-informed protesters.

It wouldn't both me, but I know what's involved and am fairly easy going.

As said, she needs support and encouragement not snide comments. A lot rides on this going well.

After 20 minutes in her company I would slitting my wrists with a butter knife....

This is a very common reaction to rally cars. Whether in competition or on a 'scenic tour' I've known of many instances of public objection. Sometimes violence has been used, the road blocked off & cars attacked with hammers.

This is a real historic moment. The first ever rally in England using closed public roads.

It will soon settle down and become as acceptable as it is in France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Portugal, N. Ireland, Ireland, IoM, etc.

There are 'NIMBYS' everywhere, but whilst vocal, they tend to be small in number and one might suspect that no amount of 'education' will change there deep-rooted objections to anyone having fun in their locality. I believe a few route alterations were made to accommodate some locals who might have needed access to their homes for medical reasons during the times the rally would have been passing.

The event is fully subscribed with 120 entries and a wide range of cars from modern to historics. Well done CMC, a fine effort of organisation.

Now wait and see Rally GB on the superb roads which could be closed in Wales. Imagine the Abergwesyn to Tregaron road done as a stage in daylight. It will be awesome.

Lazy stereotyping of people with genuine concern. I have watched rallying for decades and also seen what can happen when a rally stage is located near your house- I used to live near a popular stage .

This is what the minority can do which spoils it for the rest -

stupidly inconsiderate parking, wrecked verges
litter - everywhere, including beer bottles like one poster above suggest be thrown away .
effing and blinding at max volume
appalling driving

Rallying needs to put its own house in order as a minority give it a bad name
