RS3 Race Trailer wanted 330 - 1011
Discussion
I had set my sights on a Brian James RS3 clam shell trailer. I have been looking now for a few months for a good used trailer but still not a one has surfaced. I wanted a good used trailer but due to not finding one on the usual sites I have called around a few dealers and no one is offering any discount on a new trailer so looking at a tad over 9K which is well out of my budget. Does anyone know of a trailer?
Can I have some recommendations & suggestions as to an alternative covered trailer that I could man handle myself.in the £5-6K bracket if I fail to get a RS3.

I bought mine last year and its been very useful and tows very nicely loaded or empty. However, its not been without problems to watch on a S/H trailer:
Rear divers side hub (with wheel still bolted on) came off as i turned of the M6 a few weeks ago due to a failed wheel bearing so make sure your hubs are without movement.
The clam is dropping slowly and I now see that one of the struts is leaking a very small amount of oil/gas so look for that. Mine are quite new.
The loom which feeds the rear passenger side lights is poorly protected as it passes through the chassis and mine rubbed through burning out the cable and blowing all stop and tail fuses on my towing car.
Pretty sure the hitch damper is kaput too so thats the next job.

thanx nigel for the feed back all good to know. did you buy new or used
Sorry for the delay. I bought mine used as it was VAT free and about £4500. I think its about ten years old now and was wrapped in Black from new which has really saved the shell from stonechips and weather etc. WELL WORTH IT.Its been cared for as far as I can see but Trailers need maintenance:
Typical costs are as I have just bought all of this from Trailparts apart from the canopy strut from BJ:
Four decent branded Tyres £160
Wheel bearing kit £9
Hub inc bearings £80
Brakes per axle £38
Gas strut for canopy £150
Hitch Damper £45
Whatever you buy before you use it:
Fit some wheel nut indicators 19mm and keep an eye on them.
pull on the handbrake and tow forward, all wheels should skid when the trailer is empty
Take a look aroound the canopy too see if any fasteners are loose as it moves about a bit.
