Can anyone advise on the cheapest GPS based laptimer available. I don't need anything fancy just something that is not becon based and has inbuilt and reliable GPS?
Before anybody suggest to use a mobile phone, I have tried using my windows based mobile and the results are less than reliable!
I was simply looking for something solely for laptiming purposes and at a cheap price?
Thanks

Pitking do a basic standalone 10hz GPS timer which even features some very basic analysis and mapping functions for around £200.

I've never used one - but it caught my eye at Autosport in Jan.

The AIM Solo looks good and it also does predictive lap times on your way round the circuit, which if it works must be fantastic for trying new lines and approaches to corners. I researched these a while ago and the Solo looked like the best on a budget. I don't actually own one though as after much fiddling I finally managed to get my car's own lap timing system working.

Yep, predictive is great on the Solo.Another vote for the solo.
I bought mine last year, easy to set up and use (I'd loose interest quick quickly if it wasn't)
Can down load the data and compare graphically which is handy, especially if you can get the data from a lap done by someone quicker.

I have mine mounted off the cage on top of the dash just above my right hand. If you are familiar with the predictive lap timing delta stuff in driving sims like iRacing then it is the closest feeling to that I have seen and a bit spooky to be honest. BertBert said:
The predictive/delta is continuous. I'm just getting to grips with it and it does sometimes do an odd thing. It shows you ahead of the fastest lap, then the lap time ends up being slower.
Anyone else have this?

No, that sounds odd.. used mine for 3 years and it's been spot on. Anyone else have this?

As above, add a 10hz bluetooth GPS receiver to a mobile and will be a spot on budget option. I use a qstarz version, cost me £30 used but usually go for about £60 if you cant wait for a bargain. I run racechrono with the obd2 and predictive lap add ons all linked to an old samsung phone built in to my dash.
