Probably sounds a bit stupid this, but does anyone know where you can buy magnetic race numbers? I've seen Demon Tweeks do a magnetic background but surely you won't know the numbers required until you get there and sign on, right?

This is for hillclimbing. Can someone steer me in the right direction?

You usually receive the Final Instructions with entry list/start number at least a week before the event.

OK but where do you get the actual numbers? Do they provide them in sticker form at the events? Or is it up to you to sort out beforehand?

They aren't especially expensive. I just have a job lot from Demon tweeks, and have a folder full of numbers

Paddock offices usually have a limited supply

I get mine from eBay - briz_graphics - and also have a folder full of numbers.

It is annoying when you do lots of events and the same numbers keep getting used whereas others never get used at all..... for my last 4 events, I've had to buy a new pack of numbers nearly every time despite having a folder full of them..... 59, 76, 70, 67, 55

Bob

I take it if I buy a magnetic background the numbers are just stickers which easily peel back off then?

Also, if two people are competing in the same car, am I right to presume you'll get a number per driver and have to swap them over?

You usually add a number onto the number you are racing with if there is an additional driver

eg

R8Steve - number 42
R8Steve's dad - number 142

You take it right troubled soul re: the sticky backing.

And using a bit of gaffer tape and striking through the one is generally sufficient for time keepers - you aren't expected to apply and remove prior to every run.

What championship will you run in?

And Bob - feel your pain - 2's and 1's I always run short on quickly as I'm in a road going class

Yes sticky backed that just peel off.

Sprints usually use the number 7 as a prefix when two driver are competing in the same car. So driver one for example would be 34 and driver two 734. A piece of tape diagonally through the 7 is used when the 'other' driver is having their runs.

Double drivers common in HillClimb - the organisers give them two numbers one hundred apart - eg 123 and 23. The first digit gets struck out with a cross of gaffer.
In other series - CSCC, circuit racing two drivers share one car in same race. Number stays the same.
TS must find out what their series expects.

I buy my numbers from Road & Stage Motorsport, my local: http://www.rsmmotorsport.co.uk/ Ring the lovely Julie, or find your local motorsport supplier.

Don't gamble on there being any numbers in the race office.
If desperate, gaffer and a pair of scissors/Stanley knife/fingernails/teeth!

I have a small vinyl plotter and use that to print out race numbers and other logos. Cameo Silhouette is quite cheap.

I had a set of magnetic boards made up at a local sign shop and use the numbers pack from Demon Tweeks:

Thats exactly what I used to do, I think I bought the magnetic sheet off of ebay for next to nothing and a big box of cheap numbers also from ebay.

Also used the left over magnetic sheet to the sponsor / championship logos as I was sprinting my daily driver.

Same for me Andy (daily driver).

I paid £10.00 for the boards in 2011 and they are still in use.

With magnetic "plates" I tend to use a bit of tape on the leading edge to try and stop the wind getting underneath the plate.
