Compulsory motorsport insurance - is it coming?
Discussion
I was sent this as part of an account I've signed up to.
I don't really know how I feel about this? On the one hand, I don't currently buy insurance when I race as any additional cost is generally to be avoided in my mind, but on the other hand, there is a certain element of reassurance that I'd get from knowing that I had to insure myself and the car before I go out on track.
I know compulsory insurance has been talked about and much maligned for some time but how much truth do we think there is in this and could it be coming to us soon? Surely the impact on motorsport and the subsequent supply chain would be immense if carried out in full?

Don't forget...this idiotic rule is not about racing, taking part in motorsport or anything like that. It is simply by owning a motorised vehicle you must have it insured. Any risks thereafter will just add more and more cost.
This will not only be a huge money spinner for insurance companies...but also a license to print money for fraudsters claiming against people.
I wonder will we be able to claim against F1 for them boring us to death ?
Biking is going a bit hyperbolic.

Thing is, the MSA can do very little even if they wanted to help ( which would be odd given recent nonsense trying to make competing more awkward ). Although if they are lobbying to try and prevent this...then that might be a good thing. But as we all know, the EU doesnt tend to listen to anyone, hence Brexit. Here is the MSA's view: https://www.msauk.org/assets/msavnukjan2017.pdf

The insurance nonsense isnt just about racing, taking part, actual risks etc etc etc.
Even if you own a race car and never used it....this silly rule would still require it to be insured, because potentially it could be used, potentially it could be a risk etc
It's such a load of crap really...you could easily say every single person needs insured too, as they could pose a risk to others around them. Although it would need a huge exception clause, that you're allowed to kill/injure stupid people without worry. ( and we could start with those dreaming up these stupid insurance regulations ! )
