Editing race vids
Discussion
What do people use to edit race vids? I only want to cut out the dull stuff, join bits together and add a caption page at the beginning.
Vid editing programs always seems inexplicable to me! I used to use windows movie maker, but the version that works on Win 10 seems a mess!
Tks
Bert
PS Fortunately my driving is a little better than my vid editing, but it's a close call

Hi Bert,
I use AVS http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor.aspx, worth buying the unlimited subscription. It's easy to use and does everything that you're likely to need. I used to use Adobe Premier years ago and actually prefer this.
Cheers, Dave

Persevere with windows live movie maker. It's still pretty easy, free and seems to use very little computing power. I can edit GoPro 1080/60 footage on a £150 windows tablet without any problem. Simple to add title screen and captions too.
Otherwise GoPro studio is free but seems to crash a lot but has some useful features.

I've done all mine on Movie Maker in Windows 7. I use the same for my scuba videos. It's nice and easy to use and if I remember rightly it can even burn a watchable DVD.
Can I infer from the above that MM has gone in the latest versions of Windows? I use it constantly. I did wrestle with Go Pro studio for a while, but found it so unintuitive that it was almost impossible to use - shame.

I think a lot of useful stuff disappeared with the "upgrade" to W10...either that or they want you to purchase themCan I infer from the above that MM has gone in the latest versions of Windows? You can still install movie maker in w10 - it's just not included by default. Search for Windows Live Essentials.
Thanks edited to add: Now discontinued apparently: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Movie_Make...
Well as it happens, I thought I should get around to trying some of the suggestions and see what I like.
I started with AVS yesterday as suggested by Fishy Dave. I made a vid, it was ok. I struggled a bit to get opening titles on a blank blue page, so ended up overlaying them on the vid at the start of the race. Need to work on that.
Youtube is a good suggestion other than you have to upload all the vids. They can be whoppas, especially the gopro ones.

I use Final Cut Pro X, which is a bit more in-depth - here's an edit I just did a few days ago

If its just cutting the start and end off footage, then MPEG Streamclip will do it, but it wont do much else...
If you're trying to use the You Tube one, then you need to shrink the footage - there is a programme called 'Handbrake' which massively reduces Go Pro file size with no visible quality loss. I'm using mac, but pressure its also available on windows.
