Tow hooks - sprinting
Discussion
I've recently bought a 2009 Renault Clio RS 200 to do a few sprints and hill climbs in. I've checked the MSA regs and I think it says the tow hook needs to have an opening of 60mm.
Here's the standard tow hook for the clio which has a 35mm opening, I thought this would probably be too small
When I competed in my 997 Turbo I used one of these
Every scrutineer that checked the Porsche was happy with that tow hook but it's only 50mm.
So my question is am I likely to get through scrutineering with the standard Renault tow hook?
If not, I will have to make something to work as, due to the M20 bolt size and the distance from the front bumper to the screw in point, there is nothing aftermarket that fits.
Something like this, using an M20 bolt and some bolts and washers could work. I would need to find someone to machine the hole in the metal of the tow strap to accommodate the M20 bolt which is much bigger than the standard bolt hole on these straps.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What class are you running in?
I thought for the standard production classes (which I run in) it's more a case of "removable tow hooks should be fitted if possible" or something suitably vague. I'm an absent-minded bugger who always forgets but it's never been mentioned at scrutineering.

Likewise. Plus I only have 1 toweye so would I fit it front or rear?I thought for the standard production classes (which I run in) it's more a case of "removable tow hooks should be fitted if possible" or something suitably vague. The once time it was required it was quick & easy to remove from glovebox & screw in, marshalls were perfectly fine about it.
Whilst the requirements in the Racing section of the Blue Book go into detail on what towing points should be provided the section for Speed events just says...
(S)10.1.15. It is recommended that suitable towing point(s) on all cars shall be clearly identified, and suitably marked, using a contrasting bright colour, accessible from the front and rear.
however something to think about, is when you are stuck in a gravel trap where do you want them to pull you from, the easier for them the less likely you are going to get additional unintentional damage.

You need neither a fabric, nor a wire tow loop for sprinting.
Just the 60mm tow loop
