Hi all, first time posting in this part of ph.
Old man is coming up to retirement time soon and wants something to fill his time.
He has mentioned hillclimb events, as it's his birthday coming up soon thought the ideal prezzie was a few books on the events, cars and how to build/mod a car for these events.
Any ideas on any good ones?
Thanks all.

Haven't read it, but this would seem to fit the bill:
Hillclimbing and Sprinting: The Essential Manual https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1845841034/ref=cm_sw_r...
Better yet, buy him some tickets to an event and chat to other competitors over a coffee!

Depending on his age and preference, Trials might be his thing. I was at the VSCC Cumbrioa Trial last weekend - some wonderful vehicles!
These pics were from 2014, but it was much the same. http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/lakedistrict,trial/...
Trials take place where even rally drivers fear to tread, and hill climbers have never heard of, like Drumhouse on Honister Pass

Never mind reading about hillclimbing, why not treat him to a day at The Gurston Down hillclimb drivers school, it is non-competitive, previous hillclimb experience is not needed and he can do it in his normal road car http://www.gurstondown.org/gurston-down-hill-climb....He has mentioned hillclimb events, as it's his birthday coming up soon thought the ideal prezzie was a few books on the events, cars and how to build/mod a car for these events...

Thanks for that. I was unaware such places existed! That's definitely a possibility, not too far away from us as well.
Just a quick update. Mother got me and old man the day at Gurston Down hill climb school but it's not until may so a bit of a wait.
In the mean time dad is looking to see what cars are about.
He saw a mx5 with a proper cage in but it was sold before we could actually go and look at it, also seen a little Renault Clio on the net that has taken his fancy.

I saw this MX5 for sale which looks the sort of thing you are after. (I don't have anything to do with the seller)

I bought a similar one recently and it's been brilliant. I also did the Gurston Down school last year and can highly recommend it.
