Advice on Which Racing Series
Discussion
I could do with some advice on the best series to have a go at racing in.
Background is I've been doing track days for a few years now. I started off with a bog standard MR2 Roadster which over the years has been modified to suit track use. Ive always done stuff to circuit racing standards but not given any thought to any class regulations.
I would love to have a go at racing but seem to have limited my options with some of the mods I've made.
The car is a 2001, the engine has been swapped for a 2zz-ge which is the same capacity but was never available in the MR2. I've also replaced suspension with coilovers and the rear suspension is adjustable and rose jointed. Cage, extinguisher, cut off etc has all been done properly.
What I've ended up with is great fun but is too old for any of the classic races and too messed with for any MR2 series.
I think I could do Trackday Trophy or 750mc Roadsports? Would these be a good start for someone with more enthusiasm than talent? My main aim is to find a friendly bunch of people where I can just enjoy having a go at racing.
Thanks in advance!

I thought the engine swap would be a big issue but the 750mc regs say "Any production engine originally produced by the manufacturer in question may be fitted to the vehicle. For Lotus cars, engines from the Toyota and Rover model range may be fitted" and the CSCC Open Series regs just say engine and gearbox are free!
Thanks for the suggestions so far! And Hi Miles (small world as they say)
750mc Roadsports was the one that caught my eye, seeing as I would be a team of one, how is it racing for a 40min stint?
I hadn't seen the CNC Heads series before, I like the fact it's all based in the North that would work well for me living in Manchester. Would that series be alright for a novice? There looks to be some really serious cars running! They are at Oulton in October might go and have a look.

CNC Heads is the best championship in the country.I started there, as a novice, and there are novices finding there feet in each and every race.
Yes, there is some seriously quick machinery, but they are experts at negotiating traffic- don't be intimidated.
The championship has competitors travelling from all over the country including Scotland and Brighton!
I will be there in October, spectating, and will gladly meet up for a brew if you wish.
Glad I found this topic. Just finished first season doing Ginetta GRDC, but GRDC+ is just too expensive and too much time for me currently. So liking the look of entering Club Enduro events at the 3 circuits that match the training I've done this year. More race time (15mins only in GRDC) and 1 day events so less time away from home. Should keep the cost down massively.
Food for thought.

The G40 should be an ideal car for 750 Club Enduro and the CSCC New Millenium series (40 min pit stop race for 1 or 2 drivers on one day)Food for thought.

It's good fun. Upside for a trackdayer is that you are used to doing mileage on track, likely to be pretty consistent etc. Downside for getting into racing is that you would probably learn more racecraft in two 15 minute races than in one 45 minute race as a lot of the action happens at the start and first couple of laps before the field starts to spread out.
Roadsports is great though, a wide variety of cars so there will always be something to dice with even if it isn't in your class, generally decent driving standards and a pretty good atmosphere.
Regs are pretty wide open regarding things like engine swaps etc, I've run in a Porsche with a different engine in it and now use a 106 with the original lump and a blower on it.
I'm looking forward to seeing what venues they come up with for Enduro next year, two hour races are another thing again!
