(Mistake already GRP) 1st post and here we go.

I have an old Brian James Race Shuttle - Sprint type - ( that lives in Northamptonshire)
Over Easter I had a tree surgeon cut a tree down, part of it went through the roof and side - not a straight forward fix.

So I am here in hope. I need some one capable of the repair. Any recommendations please?

It is a bit of mess and given the age of the trailer I fear the worst, however these trailers are not cheap even second hand in working condition so perhaps worth the man hours..

Secondly, legal. The man / company in question is going pay, then claim off his insurance.
Apparently the insurance company do not have people that investigate because they would have to inspect buildings, vehicles etc..
They work on the basis they just pay for the damage via a invoice / quote from a credible business.

Where does that leave me If I can't get it repaired?
Given it's age and ware prior, you might argue it is only worth £3k?.. however it is fitted inside for purpose (no receipts)
and this sprint shuttle is 2 feet longer than standard (current) Brian James sprint shuttles - if it was shorter the car would not fit in.

Ebay's offerings maybe newer and a bit smarter but they are £4.6K plus... so I'd be left making up the difference?.. how do you value such an item?..

This chap wants to avoid solicitors but if he buys me a replacement trailer, I don't want him chasing me for the difference if someone say's the one he damaged was not worth that much.

We are racing in 4 weeks and I need a trailer, if I went through a solicitor I would state I would have to perhaps hire one.

Any advice.. Trying to do the right thing. I think I will have a contract drawn up if he replaces the trailer to make sure it does not bite me in ass later.

A few years ago I loaned my BJ Shuttle to a friend. Driving along the big side door popped open, missed the nearby cyclist but connected with a light pole. Damage to door and to mounting. My friend is very handy with his hands and over the weekend he repaired it and handed it back to me on the Monday. The repair while not 100 % hidden is still very good and I'm more than happy now six years later ( a couple of very select Jameson's helped ! ).
My point is that there are people out there who can repair yours, maybe from the cannoe fraternity or car repair, or caravan. I painted my Shuttle in destinctive colours afterwards which hid all the damage and served to make it less attractive to thieves, all Shuttles are white, a thief would need to repaint mine at a cost so he's be better served stealing a white one.

Mine now

Dropped it off to a company in Essex early this morning, should get it back in a couple of weeks.

Fingers crossed.
